Hollow Knight: Silksong is a title that people have anticipated for quite some time. Since its initial announcement in February 2019, people have waited six long years with no clear signs of when it will be made available to the public. Now, there are clues regarding Silksong's release window that support the game's expected release window sometime in 2025, rekindling the hopes of many that it's still coming. Still, there is one particular possibility regarding the matter of when it will be playable, one that fans may not particularly like but would likely be what's best for the game.

Throughout the years, there have been many leaks and rumors regarding when exactly everyone will be able to get their hands on Hollow Knight: Silksong. Regardless of how many there were, Team Cherry neither confirmed nor denied them, instead focusing on silently working on the game throughout its development cycle. The company has somewhat broken that silence, hinting its creation may just see a 2025 release. However, there is still a possibility that the game's release window could be pushed back, as there is still a degree of uncertainty surrounding it, which could lead to that being the case.

Why It’s Possible That Silksong May Not Arrive in 2025

While there are a lot of things that state that Silksong has a good chance of being made playable in 2025, there's still no guarantee that it will. As for why the game could potentially be pushed back to have a much later release window, there are a few factors that must be considered:

  • Although Silksong is listed as a part of the upcoming games for the Nintendo Switch 2, the game has had a history of delays, which could mean that even though it's stated for 2025, it could be pushed back to next year.
  • Information found on the official Nintendo Japan website shared that Silksong is a part of games to be released after June 6 for the Nintendo Switch 2, and with there being no date, perhaps it's a way of reducing expectations.
  • People will be able to play Silksong in September during Game Worlds, a video game exhibition that will be held in Australia, but it's likely to be a test version that Team Cherry will use to gather information to better develop the sequel.

All those could mean that Silksong's release window is being pushed back, but there's no guarantee that it will. Team Cherry may just surprise everyone by having the game out exactly when it's intended this time around, something that many would likely want to happen because of how long they've already waited.

How Silksong Missing Its 2025 Release Window Could Actually Benefit Fans

The release window potentially being pushed back may be far from good news for Silksong's long-time dedicated backers and fans, but Team Cherry making it so actually has some benefits. For one, it means they can use the extra time to further polish the intended new features and mechanics, guaranteeing that the sequel's gameplay is something everyone can enjoy. Also, a small delay to sometime early next year could give people a lot of things to think about, raising questions and concerns that Team Cherry can use to increase the anticipation of the release if the developer responds to them.

If there's one thing that Silksong players should come to expect, it's that the game is definitely coming, but the ambiguity as to when is still something that Team Cherry has to clear up. A 2025 release is what many anticipate, but if it's to the game's benefit for Silksong to be pushed out sometime next year or even longer, then it's something the fans will have to come to accept, even if it means another waiting period.
