Those who played Hollow Knight will likely remember a polished game that consisted of beautiful environments, difficult yet fair enemies, and a diverse and memorable cast of characters. It was so well-received that its developer, Team Cherry, was inspired to create a sequel whose release is still being anticipated despite the long wait. Still, it has been a while since the original title's release, which means that perhaps people should consider returning to the regions of Hallownest and overcoming the challenges that await them.

Hollow Knight was released on the 24th of February 2017 and became a beloved title due to Team Cherry putting a lot of effort into its overall quality. It has been eight years since then, and the game still holds up today even when pitted against more modern titles. Playing it again in 2025 may be worth everyone's time, as veterans and even newcomers will have something to gain from going back and enjoying one of the more unique titles that can stand the test of time.

Why People Should Play Hollow Knight in 2025

The world of Hollow Knight is vast and full of danger, and people who have or have yet to experience what it has to offer will find that doing so in 2025 will be a good decision. If any were to decide to play what is arguably Team Cherry's greatest creation, then they would come to understand that there are benefits to doing so:

  • Fans will be able to enjoy or reappreciate the game's finely-tuned combat and use it to prepare for the sequel's battles, as the game provides a good number of enemies with movement and attack patterns that anyone can overcome with the right amount of skill and strategization
  • The game has a decent amount of platforming that provides difficult but fair challenges, and overcoming them can be satisfying while improving a player's ability to judge and make decisions, which will also be needed when playing Silksong once it's released
  • With Team Cherry providing an update on Silksong's development and the hope for it to be released soon, playing Hollow Knight in 2025 will give people an idea of what they're in for and familiarize themselves with the protagonist and possible returning characters

Since it's still a mystery as to when Silksong will be released, people can at least be ready for what it has to offer by returning to its predecessor. Even if some have no plans to play the sequel, Hollow Knight on its own is worth experiencing regardless of whether it's a player's first or tenth time because of how well it's made.

What Veterans of Hollow Knight Can Do To Enjoy It More

Veterans have likely overcome basically every challenge, from collecting all the charms to beating the most difficult bosses of Hollow Knight. Even so, there are still ways to enjoy the game even after achieving everything in the game, and that's making one's own challenges. As for what those could be, there are a few ideas:

  • Players can choose to play the game without any charms or upgrades, making fights more difficult as a result
  • It is possible to play the game without using the map at all, turning Hallownest into a much more difficult place to explore
  • Doing a speedrun of the game can offer quite a challenge, one that seasoned veterans can take on to see if they have the skill to beat it in as little time as possible

While people can choose to play games similar to Hollow Knight, it's hard to beat the experience of playing the actual title created by Team Cherry. Regardless of the reason, it can still be worth playing in 2025, and hopefully, those who have yet to experience it will consider picking it up and veterans go back to enjoy what made it so great.
