Hollow Knight: How To Get The Mothwing Cloak

In Hollow Knight, there are many abilities that often come in handy to unlock new areas. Here's how to get the Mothwing Cloak for dashing.

One of the most important things that you’ll want to do before setting out to get the Monarch Wings is getting the Lumafly Lantern, as you’ll have to go through a considerable part of the Deepnest area, which can be a nightmare to navigate in the dark. Here’s how to get the Monarch Wings in Hollow Knight.

How To Get The Monarch Wings

To get the Monarch Wings in Hollow Knight, you’ll first need to get the Tram Pass in order to use the Tramway cart that will take you to the Ancient Basin area. Once you have the pass, you'll be able to take the cart to this location and make your way towards this useful ability. It should be noted that the Ancient Basin area is not easy to navigate, and you should have at least one or two extra Ancient Masks to survive unless you want a big challenge.

If you've already purchased this location’s map from Cornifer, get to the area marked with the red circle in the picture above to find a bench that will be very useful and will act as your starting point. To follow the path marked in the picture above, you’ll need the Crystal Heart ability, so if you have not obtained that yet, you should focus on unlocking the Crystal Peak location first. As you make your way along this perilous pathway, you'll encounter various enemies spitting orange goo in your direction. You can avoid most of them if you’re careful, or you can choose to kill them; however, they can take multiple hits before going down.

Once you've successfully completed the U-shaped pathway marked above, hug the wall to your right until you reach the opening of a shortcut (white circle) that will save you a lot of time if you die to the enemy you’ll face in a moment.

Hollow Knight - Ancient Basin Shortcut

After unlocking the shortcut, go left until you reach a room where you'll find the Broken Vessel (green circle). This boss fight is quite challenging and will require you to both focus on the vessel and the orange enemies it spawns.

Hollow Knight - Broken Vessel Defeated

Once you’ve defeated this formidable foe, keep going left until you reach a room with the statue of a scarab. Next to it, there will be the precious Monarch Wings.

Acid is one of the most annoying elements present in Hollow Knight. Here's how to get Isma's Tear to never have to worry about it again.

What Are The Monarch Wings Good For?

Aside from being a great ability to move around a lot faster and discover new areas, the Monarch Wings are also an excellent tool when it comes to the Colosseum of Fools and dealing with challenging enemies. They allow you to move around with more freedom, and give you an extra jump to avoid incoming attacks.

By combining the Monarch Wings with the Mantis Claw, you’ll have many more options for vertical and horizontal movement. This is why, although you can finish Hollow Knight without getting the Monarch Wings, it’s strongly advised that you make them a part of your arsenal.
