Hogwarts Legacy has revealed four in-game items players can earn from Twitch drops. These items are cosmetics that players will be able to use in Hogwarts Legacy.
The lead-up to the release of Hogwarts Legacy has been controversial, to say the least. After a string of transphobic comments from Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, developer Avalanche Studios has done its best to distance itself from her views. With many planning to boycott the title, it remains to be seen how Hogwarts Legacy performs commercially amid such issues. The game is already a critical success, however, with early reviews praising the game's scale and fulfillment of the Wizarding fantasy.
The four in-game rewards available through Twitch are exclusive to the platform, earned by watching a streamer play Hogwarts Legacy with Twitch Drops enabled for at least 30 minutes. The rewards are the Silver Dragon-Eyed Spectacles, the Urchin Hat, the Carmine Lightning Bolt Scarf, and the Lilac Ensemble costume. In Hogwarts Legacy, character customization is said to be extremely important to the game, so any chance for players to further customize their characters is a positive thing. With no microtransactions in the game, it seems as though players will be able to unlock everything in-game through gameplay.
This isn't Twitch's only involvement with Hogwarts Legacy. Some streamers are boycotting Twitch while it runs ads that promote the game. The streaming site is yet to comment on whether it will allow streamers to choose which ads their viewers see, although such a move would be unprecedented for Twitch. While many streamers are boycotting the site, many others are choosing to simply disable ads on their streams while the campaign takes place.
As the release of Hogwarts Legacy draws closer day by day, fans are already beginning to speculate what the future could hold for the franchise. One theory even suggests that Dumbledore could make an appearance in a potential Hogwarts Legacy sequel. With the current uncertainty surrounding the future of the Fantastic Beasts film series, Hogwarts Legacy represents a part of the franchise that fans can enjoy as a standalone product without worrying about its future. If the game does prove to be a commercial success, a sequel that further expands the Wizarding World seems like a guarantee.
Hogwarts Legacy launches February 10 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, with PS4 and Xbox One versions coming April 4, and a Switch port releasing July 25.
