Hogwarts Legacy places its players in the shoes of a fifth-year student during their first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The story kicks off with the protagonist embarking on a journey to the famed wizarding school, but when their trip is interrupted by a dragon attack, it becomes clear that attending classes will not be their primary concern.
Upon arriving at Hogwarts, the player will slowly be given the freedom to explore the castle and the world outside. Those who enjoy exploring the vast lands of Hogwarts Legacy will likely encounter a variety of different treasures, such as new outfits. Equipping a different outfit can enhance the protagonist's offense and defense, but most players will seek them out for cosmetic purposes.
How To Get New Outfits
Players can customize their character's appearance whenever they obtain new gear. These items can be found quite often by exploring the castle and the world outside, but some are harder to acquire than others.
Obtaining some outfits requires the player to explore Treasure Vaults, seek out hidden areas, infiltrate enemy encampments, and complete challenges, but if the player isn't interested in seeking these items out, they simply cast Revelio to locate some of the more accessible pieces of gear stored in treasure chests throughout the world. For those who have Galleons to spare, new gear can also be purchased from vendors, but it's usually easier to find them while exploring.
How To Upgrade Gear
Upon acquiring a piece of gear that the player wishes to keep equipped, they can bring it to the Room of Requirement to enhance it. To do this, they must first place a Loom in their room that, when interacted with, will allow the player to enhance the offense or defense of their character.
While the Loom can improve the power of the protagonist's clothing, it doesn't provide any aesthetic enhancements. In order to change the general appearance of one's outfit, one must resort to the Gear section of the main menu.
How To Equip A Hood
Players can raise their character's hood pretty much the moment they gain access to the Gear section of the main menu. To do so, they must first equip a cloak that has a hood for them to raise; not all cloaks come with hoods attached, so players might need to browse their wardrobe until they find something suitable. Sadly, this will restrict players from wearing certain items if they wish to incorporate a hood into their character's look.
Upon equipping a cloak with a hood, all the player needs to do is hover the cursor over the Cloaks and Robes slot in the Gear menu and locate the Hood On/Off prompt at the bottom right of the text box. There, they will be given the option to raise and lower their hood so long as the cloak equipped has a hood to be raised.
Raising the character's hood isn't a permanent change, so players can feel free to raise and lower it from the Gear menu whenever they feel like it.
Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. PS4 and Xbox One versions will release on April 4 and a Switch version will release on July 25.
