Role-playing as known characters from the Harry Potter universe is a particular thrill for fans of Hogwarts Legacy. Playing as Harry Potter himself isn’t possible since he hasn’t been born by the time the events of Hogwarts Legacy take place. But there are ways for players to role-play as Harry in the game.

6 The Look

Achieving the look of Harry Potter in the character creator is one of the best ways to role-play as him. While there are some features, such as the lightning-bolt scar, which even Hogwarts Legacy does not provide, the general look is possible to achieve. Players should start with the preset option #4 if attempting to make Harry.

From here, face shape #3 and the palest skin color should be paired with the first choice of glasses available. Hair color should be chosen as #5, and while Harry has a variety of hairstyles throughout the movies, one that works for his hair is option #43 out of the hairstyles. Complexion choice is another personal preference but skews to the further right side for Harry.

Freckles and moles should be the furthest left possible on the slider and none of the scars really works for his lightning-bolt, so these should probably be left off. Harry is often cited as having his mother’s eyes, and the best color choice is probably #22, while his eyebrow color should be #1 and his eyebrow shape something like #2. Voice option #1 and a middle pitch are probably the best suits for Harry.

5 The Wand

When players are given the choice in Hogwarts Legacy in Hogsmeade to make their own wand, Harry Potter fans will want to recreate Harry’s own wand. For wand wood, players should choose holly, while the length is on the shorter end of 11 inches for a wizard wand.

While most wands are difficult to define as either rigid or pliable, Harry’s wand has been described in the past as “nice and supple” which can help players recreate it. The most important note about Harry’s wand is the core, which is that of a phoenix feather. Harry’s wand actually contains a feather from Fawkes, Professor Dumbledore’s phoenix, which also gave a feather to the wand owned by Tom Riddle/Voldemort.

Another obvious point about how to role-play as Harry is to join Gryffindor's house when prompted at the sorting ceremony. Players looking for the exact experience of Harry can even opt for selecting the choice of ambition when the hat asks what they want, leading to the option to join Slytherin, which players can then turn down.

Harry’s capabilities with Parseltongue cannot be brought into Hogwarts Legacy. But his uncertainty about which house he really belongs to, due to the connection and history he has with Lord Voldemort, can be used by players looking for a real role-play experience across the many events in Hogwarts Legacy.

3 Harry’s Favorite Spells

Harry Potter has a wide arsenal of spells, being the one to teach his fellow students in his fifth year when Dumbledore’s Army came together. Being such a talent, and seeing as the player character in Hogwarts Legacy is in their fifth year, playing as Harry will involve using a solid move set. Expelliarmus is one spell that Harry is known to use a great deal. While it is most useful against dark wizards in Hogwarts Legacy, it also does damage to any enemy when used in combat.

Disillusionment is the closest spell that players can get to an invisibility cloak, as it is used to shield the player from sight. Stupefy is another spell that Harry uses frequently, which is used in the game as an automatic counter after using Protego to block enemy spells.

Other useful spells that Harry definitely wouldn’t be against include Incendio, an early-game spell that damages enemies without being too dangerous. Also, Accio is a summoning spell that can leave enemies vulnerable to combination attacks. All of these and his affinity for magical beasts are aspects that players should include in their role-play.

2 Best Talents

Talents are an important part of Hogwarts Legacy. Some particular talents will help players achieve their goal of role-playing as Harry since it can be difficult without using darker, more dangerous spells to win tough battles. Stunning Curse and Disarming Curse give curse effects to enemies when Stupefy and Expelliarmus respectively are performed on them, making enemies more vulnerable after Harry’s favorite moves are used on them.

Using Wiggenweld Potency upgrades to make healing potions more effective is definitely a good core talent, and Ancient Magic Throw Expertise, as the ancient magic will be completely fine to continue using in place of some more powerful spells while role-playing as Harry as players navigate through the many puzzles in Hogwarts Legacy trying to get as many talents unlocked as possible.

1 Unforgivable Curses

Hogwarts Legacy Avada Kedavra

One of the most notable choices in Hogwarts Legacy is whether the player allows Sebastian Sallow to teach them the three unforgivable curses. As Harry is a good wizard, players might expect that role-playing him involves never taking the usage of the three curses. However, Harry is one good wizard who has been shown to go to far lengths in order to help people, including using both Crucio and Imperio at different times in the movies.

Harry never successfully cast Crucio but did attempt it on Bellatrix Lestrange after she killed Sirius Black, while he has used Imperio on several occasions. To role-play as Harry, players may want to lean into his darker side by accepting the choice to learn both Crucio and Imperio. But Harry never uses Avada Kedavra, the curse that killed his mother. Not even in his final battle with Lord Voldemort does Harry utilize this option, meaning players definitely shouldn’t use the killing curse in their time role-playing as the boy who lived.

Hogwarts Legacy is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox Series X/S. The game is set to launch on April 4, 2023, on the PS4 and Xbox One, while the Switch version is due to debut on July 25, 2023.
