Hogwarts Legacy fans have theories about what the potential sequel might entail. Hogwarts Legacy has been a massive success for Avalanche Software and WB, breaking records and standing tall as the best-selling video game of 2023 at the time of this writing. Considering the dizzying success Hogwarts Legacy has enjoyed, a sequel to the popular action-RPG is inevitable.

A Hogwarts Legacy sequel is apparently already in development, if leaks and rumors are to be believed, and it's just a matter of time before it's revealed to the world. Whenever the Hogwarts Legacy sequel is announced, it will be interesting to see what direction it takes. It's possible the game will be set after the events of the previous release, and if that's the case, fans have a couple of theories about what it might entail.

The Harry Potter franchise timeline was recently pointed out by Reddit user Jart618, who highlighted two specific points on the timeline. In 1891, around the time Hogwarts Legacy is set, an "extremely young Seeker" made it onto the Hogwarts Quidditch team, a title later taken by Harry Potter himself. It's entirely possible that the Hogwarts Legacy sequel will feature Quidditch, as the popular sport was left out of the original game, and if so, this mysterious Seeker could be a character. Alternatively, if the Hogwarts Legacy sequel has players starting from scratch as a Year 1 Hogwarts student, maybe the player character of Hogwarts Legacy 2 is the young Seeker.

Another point in the Harry Potter timeline is highlighted by the Reddit post. 1892 is the year that future Headmaster Albus Dumbledore started attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Considering this, it wouldn't be out of the question for a Hogwarts Legacy sequel to feature Dumbledore as one of the game's main characters.

This is assuming that a Hogwarts Legacy sequel will be set the year after the original game's story wrapped up, as opposed to going in a completely different direction. There are other magical schools in the Wizarding World universe that the developers may look at instead. Alternatively, a Hogwarts Legacy sequel could pick a completely different time period to be set in, either well before the events of the original game or some point after the events of the Harry Potter books and movies. There are many possibilities when it comes to the eventual Hogwarts Legacy sequel, and it will be exciting to see what shape it takes whenever it's announced.

Hogwarts Legacy is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X with a Switch version releasing November 14.
