As one of the most popular games of 2023 that was adapted from one of the most popular franchises of all time, fans have been clamoring for Hogwarts Legacy to receive DLC. It seems that Potterheads will finally get their wish, with rumors of Hogwarts Legacy receiving both new DLC and a Definitive Edition release.
The only DLC currently available for Hogwarts Legacy is the Dark Arts Pack, retailing at $19.99. The pack only includes a Thestral Mount, a Dark Arts Cosmetic Set, and the Dark Arts Battle Arena. However, this rumored new DLC and Definitive Edition are supposed to include a substantial amount of content compared to what is currently available.
Hogwarts Legacy 2 Already Has the Perfect Release Date
While the year of Hogwarts Legacy 2’s release may be under speculation, the date of the game’s release could be an Occam’s razor situation.
What is Known About Hogwarts Legacy's DLC
Though Warner Bros. Has yet to officially announce any new content for or based on the game, a new report by Insider Gaming claims that Hogwarts Legacy will receive DLC equaling about “10-15 hours of additional content.” Supposedly, the DLC will be featured in the Definitive Edition of the game, though gamers who have already purchased Hogwarts Legacy will be able to purchase it separately.
If Insider Gaming’s report is correct, the DLC will contain “a new story quest, side quests, activities, and outfits.” The report emphasized that pricing and release date information for this DLC is up in the air, but claims that DLC for Hogwarts Legacy will cost between $20 to $30 and will be released sometime in 2025.
Despite no official announcement of Hogwarts Legacy DLC being in the works, Insider Gaming has cemented itself as a reputable and reliable source for game leaks. Avalanche Software said in February 2023 that it had no plans to release any post-launch content for Hogwarts Legacy despite its massive success. However, this announcement was made only a month after the game’s release and its success has ballooned since Avalanche Software’s comment.
Comparing the alleged pricing of the new DLC to the currently available Dark Arts Pack shows a slight discrepancy. Players who have purchased the pack have said that the additional Dark Arts Battle Arena only constitutes about twenty minutes of gameplay. As this pack currently retails for $19.99, the new alleged DLC will likely be put in the higher range of the $20 to $30 price tag that Insider Gaming provided.
These Features Probably Won't Be Included in Hogwarts Legacy's DLC
Though the DLC’s exact content is still in the air, looking at preexisting story quests, side quests, activities, and outfits already included in Hogwarts Legacy and comparing them to the wishes and requests of fans could help nail down the DLC’s additions. With one main new story quest supposedly included in the DLC, it would make sense for the new side quests to branch from this main storyline.
Additionally, any theming would likely coincide with these new plot points, so new outfits will likely be themed similarly. For example, if Quidditch is finally added to Hogwarts Legacy in this DLC, Quidditch uniforms and casual sportswear would make sense as some of the outfits included. Still, Quidditch is an unlikely inclusion in Hogwarts Legacy’s DLC despite rampant begging from fans as Headmaster Black cancels the sport for the rest of the school year at the beginning of the game.
Other fan requests since the game’s release have included dragons, dementors, and the Triwizard Tournament. This last request is also an unlikely inclusion in Hogwarts Legacy’s DLC if Avalanche Software wants to stick to the franchise’s canon. Due to the deadly nature of the competition, the Triwizard Tournament was discontinued sometime around 1972. However, a friendly competition could make for a good mainline quest in the game and would let Avalanche Software build Hogwarts Legacy's canon further.
Overall, with such vague information introduced in this report, Potterheads will have time to run wild with fan theories and requests to include in Hogwarts Legacy’s DLC. Until then, fans will just have to play (or replay) Hogwarts Legacy for themselves and maybe even snag the Dark Arts pack while they wait.
