Hitman World of Assassination is officially getting a cross-progression update on February 3, which will allow players to transfer their saves and most progression data across all of the 10 platforms Hitman is now playable on. This upcoming cross-progression update was announced as part of Hitman World of Assassination's fifth anniversary celebrations, though there is a sizable catch involved in this update that long-time Hitman fans should be aware of.
Hitman World of Assassination launched on January 20, 2021, originally under the name Hitman 3. Initially the third entry in IO Interactive's Hitman pseudo-reboot trilogy, Hitman 3 was rebranded as Hitman World of Assassination in January 2023, with all of the prior two entries' content being added to the game for no additional cost. Despite being five years old now, Hitman 3/World of Assassination has continued to receive frequent content updates, ranging from fully-fledged DLC expansions to a wealth of star-studded Elusive Target missions.
007 First Light Dev on Comparisons: 'We Can’t Simply Reskin a Hitman Game and Call It Bond'
IO Interactive comments on the speculation over whether 007 First Light, the studio's next release, is just a reskin of its past Hitman games.
Hitman World of Assassination is Getting Cross-Progression in February
IO Interactive has officially announced that a cross-progression update will come to Hitman World of Assassination on February 3, 2026. To enable cross-progression, players will need to first link their IO Interactive account with each platform they play on. They will then need to select one of their platforms as the 'Primary' profile, which all other platforms will copy save/progression data from. For instance, setting a PS5 account with a Hitman player level of 5,000 as the Primary profile will mean that the same 5,000 player level character can then be accessed on a PC account, just as long as both have logged into the same IO Interactive account. It should be noted that in order to access cross-progression on another platform, players must first purchase Hitman World of Assassination for that specific platform.
Here's all the progression data that will be carried over between platforms following Hitman World of Assassination's upcoming cross-progression update:
- Experience
- Player Level
- Challenges
- Location Mastery
- Unlocks and Inventory
- Achievements / Trophies
- Freelancer Mode Progression
- Campaign Story Progress
Unfortunately, not every aspect of Hitman World of Assassination will carry over seamlessly between console, PC, and mobile. In order to access any DLC-related rewards or content, players will need to own it on the platform they're attempting to play it on, regardless of if they already own the DLC on their Primary profile platform. For example, owning the James Bond: Casino Royale-inspired 'Banker Pack' DLC on PC will not give players access to those cosmetics or Elusive Target missions on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, or any other platform. To access the Banker Pack's content, players would need to purchase the DLC again on the new platform.
It should be noted that while cross-progression is active, players will not be able to load any save data that isn't tied to the Primary profile. If, at any time, players want to return to a Hitman World of Assassination save file that was created on a platform that isn't the Primary profile, they simply need to disable cross-progression, and each of their non-Primary accounts will revert to the same state they were in prior to being linked.
Hitman World of Assassination is Losing Hitman 2 Carryover Feature
Another downside of this otherwise largely positive cross-progression update is that the ability to carry over save data from Hitman 2 is being removed entirely. According to IO Interactive's official announcement, this Hitman 2 Carryover feature is being removed as it "guarantees data integrity and prevents conflicts between legacy progression systems and the new unified WOA progression." The removal of this feature will go into effect on February 3, so any players still needing to transfer their Hitman 2 save data over to Hitman World of Assassination have about another two weeks (at the time of writing) to do so.
