In High on Life 2, Kreg Button is a major story boss who shows up at the end of the “Kill Billionaire Larry Pinkstock” main mission. After solving the murder of Larry Pinkstock, you will be attacked by the Button’s Gluttons gang on the cruise ship. As you make your escape, the last hurdle standing between you and safety will be Kreg Button, the leader of said gang.
The fight against Kreg is not particularly difficult, but because it is one of the very first boss fights in the game, some players may find themselves struggling to secure the win, especially at higher difficulty settings where every mistake is punishing.
What Happens If You Kill Lizzie in High on Life 2?
In High on Life 2, you get the option to kill Lizzie, your sister, or stick to the Bounty Hunter code. Here is what you should do.
How to Defeat Kreg in High on Life 2
As soon as the fight starts, Kreg will take to the sky on his flying mount, Peepee Boy, and start circling around the cruise ship, dealing damage to you from above. A majority of this fight takes place at mid to long range, as Kreg will refuse to come down and fight at your level until the very end of the fight.
Although the fight is relatively simple, the main problem is the fact that Kreg’s attacks do a lot of damage, and letting one or two of them hit you will result in death at higher difficulties. Other than that, this is a traditional gun fight without any major surprises. As long as you pay attention to his attacks and avoid them adequately, you’ll come out victorious.
If you die during the fight against Kreg, the game will reload from the last save checkpoint, which is right before the start of the fight.
Kreg’s Attacks in High on Life 2
Phase 1: Peepee Boy
During the first phase of the fight, Kreg will have access to the following attacks:
Attack |
Description |
Screenshot |
|---|---|---|
Gatling Gun |
Kreg uses a mounted gun on his flying mount to spray a large number of bullets at the player. The bullets have a travel time that makes it easy to dodge them if you react fast enough. |
Chain Throw |
Kreg will throw an anchor attached to a chain directly at the player like a high-speed projectile. This attack can be parried by using the melee attack hotkey (Knifey) mid-animation. You’ll see an on-screen interaction prompt whenever a deflection is possible. If successful, the anchor will become buried in the ground, turning the metal chain into a makeshift zipline you can ride across to reach Kreg and his flying mount (Peepee Boy) directly to perform a close-range execution-style attack using Knifey that takes away a large chunk of HP. |
Chain Sweep |
Kreg fans out six metal chains in a cone behind him and flies across the cruise ship’s deck, dragging the chains behind him and dealing damage to the player if they’re caught in any of the chains. You can use a double jump to jump over the chains or use your skateboard to skirt around the edges of the attack to avoid it. You will also be safe if you stand directly underneath Kreg during this attack, as all six chains extend sideways, and none are thrown directly underneath Peepee Boy. |
Chain Slingshot |
Kreg hooks two chains to the cruise ship’s deck, one to his left and one to his right. He flies backwards until they are both taut like a primed slingshot, then lets go, shooting himself across the deck, dragging the two chains behind him, dealing damage. Unlike other attacks Kreg uses, this attack is very low to the ground. The best way to avoid it is by jumping upward as Kreg is shooting himself across the deck. |
Chain Spin |
Kreg hooks one end of a chain directly in the middle of the arena and uses it as an anchor to spin the entire length of the deck, getting progressively faster and faster with each rotation. Like Circle Slingshot, this attack can be avoided simply by jumping upward. However, due to how fast Kreg starts to spin after gathering a lot of momentum, it can be quite hard to time these jumps correctly. The best place to stay during this attack is right in the middle of the arena, next to the anchor, so you have enough time to react to the chain. |

Make sure you keep a close eye on your new relative in High on Life 2, because you might not get another chance.
Phase 2: On the Ground
When Kreg is at roughly 15-20% health, Gessie, the large sea monster circling the cruise ship, will crash into the ship’s deck, flattening Peepee Boy to a pulp, forcing Kreg to fight on his own. In this state, Kreg only has access to the following attacks:
Attack |
Description |
Screenshot |
|---|---|---|
Gatling Gun |
Kreg rips off the mounted Gatling Gun from Peepee Boy’s back and uses it to attack the player. |
Shotgun |
Kreg uses his personal shotgun to fire a close-range shot, dealing massive damage. The farther you are from Kreg, the less damage this deals. |
Kick |
Kreg kicks you away from him if you get too close. This can throw you overboard. |
Grenade |
Kreg throws a fire grenade at you, dealing explosive damage. The thrown grenade can be deflected back at the boss using a melee attack, flipping the attack back on him. |
While these attacks do a lot of damage, Kreg will be very low health at this point, making it easy to steamroll him within a few seconds.
Best Weapons to Use Against Kreg in High on Life 2
If you’ve defeated Senator Muppy Doo before coming for Larry Pinkstock’s head, you will have unlocked Sheath, an assault rifle-esque weapon that is perfect for mid-range skirmishes like this one. The second best option is Travis, as his primary fire has a very good attack rate, making it easy to land a lot of body shots during this fight.
Of course, Sweezy is reliable as always, especially since her Time Bubble and charge shot can both show their value against Kreg. Gus is by far the least optimal choice here, as Kreg likes to fly around the arena for most of the fight, making this fight almost exclusively mid to long-range. That said, Gus is perfect for dealing with Kreg when he is forced aground after Peepee Boy dies.
