A recent report states Hideo Kojima, the gaming industry veteran running Kojima Productions, had to turn down half of the people who wanted to bag a cameo in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. A release date of June 26, 2025 has already been assigned for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, and the project serves as a direct sequel to the 2019 original, starring returning actors Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, and Troy Baker. The successor will also welcome fresh faces playing new characters, including Elle Fanning’s Tomorrow, Shioli Kutsuna’s Rainy, and Luca Marinelli’s Neil.

It was confirmed earlier in the year that director Michael Sarnoski would be helming the announced live-action Death Stranding movie, in collaboration with A24 and Kojima Productions, both of which will be producing. In addition to the live-action movie plans, Death Stranding will also be receiving an anime, after Kojima confirmed the project was in production despite details remaining under wraps.

Reported by @koji10_tbs on Twitter via Genki, the post revealed Kojima scanned several people to be a part of the sequel, adding to recent news that Death Stranding 2 had added a VTuber to its character roster. However, half of the participants had to be turned down for cameo roles because the team ran out of space on the project. The report noted that Kojima and his team had collected various “Preppers,” which included the portrayal of some powerful characters, with many recording voice lines as well, and each Prepper took around 15 minutes to scan.

Hideo Kojima Confirms Cameos Had to Be Cut From Death Stranding 2: On the Beach

Kojima also confirmed that some of the celebrities who have been scanned and made the cut in the final product will be revealed in the Death Stranding 2 launch trailer. Kojima added that he is not likely to entertain a cameo himself, because he didn’t want to be scanned for the sequel. The first Death Stranding game featured cameos from Geoff Keighley, for example, alongside director Edgar Wright and Alan Wak e’s Sam Lake, appearing as Preppers who were also scanned for the grand-scale content.

As expected, Hideo Kojima will appear at Summer Game Fest 2025, run by Keighley, and fans are prepared to receive more details on Death Stranding 2, OD, or Physint. Held on June 6 at 5 PM Eastern Time, 2 PM Pacific Time, this year’s Summer Game Fest will feature all the usual suspects, including showcases like Day of the Devs, the Future Games Show, an Xbox Games Showcase, the PC Gaming Show, and the presumably jam-packed Opening Night.
