Hideo Kojima recently commented on the development of various game projects at Kojima Productions, including the progress on the PlayStation-exclusive successor to Metal Gear, Physint. Physint marks the return of Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions to the stealth action genre after branching out with the open-world exploration game Death Stranding and the Xbox-exclusive horror game OD. Many Metal Gear fans were especially happy with Kojima's new game, considering Kojima helped pioneer and innovate the stealth action genre as the series' creator.

Physint was first announced at the January 2024 PlayStation State of Play, following the reveal of a new Death Stranding 2 trailer that announced a 2025 release for the latter. Physint was described to be a "next-gen action espionage game," with development still in early pre-production. According to Kojima, development for Physint would begin in earnest after the release of Death Stranding 2. Since it was announced to be early in development, no gameplay footage was shown off during the State of Play stream, though Kojima did say he wanted to use the latest cutting-edge technology and talent to help make it. Kojima recently gave an update regarding the Metal Gear competitor and its progress.

In a new post on his official Twitter account to ring in the new year, Kojima gave his fans a big thank you for the amount of support he received throughout 2024. Kojima notes that it was a busy year for Kojima Productions, between the release of a new trailer for Death Stranding 2, ADR recording for the game, and so much more. He also mentions Physint's development, stating that he had to delay the game's casting process due to the 2024-2025 SAG-AFTRA video game strike. Kojima hopes to get back on track with Physint in 2025.

Physint Development and Casting Delayed Due to SAG-AFTRA Strike

The SAG-AFTRA strike also affected the development of Kojima Productions' Xbox-exclusive OD. Kojima says that the game had actor and environment scanning set up, but due to the strike during the second half of the year, scanning and filming were also suspended. Kojima also mentions a few personal projects he worked on in 2024, such as a new episode of HideoTube and preparations for the Death Stranding live-action adaptation.

While there isn't much revealed about Physint at this time, it's apparent that Kojima wants to make this game deeply cinematic and stealth/espionage-focused. According to Kojima himself, the reason he wanted to work on Physint was due to a health scare in 2020, along with fans asking when he'd come back to make a new Metal Gear. Physint is still a bit of a way off, as Death Stranding 2 is still in development and will be coming out this year. Some fans suspect it might not be released on the PlayStation 5 and could be saved for the future PlayStation 6 console.
