Kojima Productions just celebrated its 10-year anniversary with a special livestream event called Beyond the Strand. Not only was this a celebration of a successful first decade that introduced the Death Stranding franchise, but it also gave long-awaited updates regarding future projects. Apart from Death Stranding, Kojima Productions has been working on a horror game titled OD and an espionage spy thriller called Physint.

OD is promising a chilling experience, but Physint remains the most intriguing for a lot of longtime Kojima fans, as it brings the game creator back to his roots. Kojima brought the Metal Gear Solid franchise to life, which is defined by espionage and spy-filled drama. It's one of the most influential modern gaming franchises of the past 30 years, and the promise of Kojima returning to the genre is compelling, even if the wait for Physint is long. In the meantime, there is another intriguing spy thriller right around the corner: 007 First LIght.

The Wait for Physint Will Hopefully Be Easier With 007 First Light on the Horizon

  • 007 First Light is set to launch on March 27, 2026.
  • Physint does not have a release date confirmed.

In an interview with French magazine Le Film Francais back in May, Kojima stated that Physint will likely "take me another five or six years." If accurate, this would likely make Physint a PS6 title, which adds even more excitement to its eventual release. At the Beyond the Strand event, Kojima Productions finally revealed the first official poster and cast for Physint, and based on the artwork, it looks like a blend of Metal Gear Solid and Blade Runner. The poster features a silhouetted man in a sleek trench coat holding a rifle, and like many Kojima projects, the small tease raises more questions than answers.

Physint's confirmed cast, so far, consists of Charlee Fraser, Don Lee, and Minami Hamabe.

007 First Light Promises a Thrilling James Bond Prequel

Developed by Hitman creators IO Interactive, 007 First Light introduces a younger, less experienced version of James Bond, which has the potential to be a wonderful change of pace. Beyond the clear similarities with both 007 First Light and Physint being in the spy thriller genre, another reason the former could be a great choice for Kojima fans is because without the character of James Bond, Metal Gear Solid simply wouldn't exist.

The James Bond franchise directly influenced Metal Gear Solid, so even though Kojima has his own special flare that feels quite different from the beloved spy series, 007 First Light could serve as a great appetizer ahead of Physint. With potentially five or six years until the Kojima spy thriller gets here, it won't be a perfect way to curb the craving for Physint, but it's definitely bound to be a solid avenue to revel in an espionage-filled world.

More Physint News is Unlikely to Show Up Any Time Soon

Before Kojima Productions revealed Physint's poster and partial cast, all that had been revealed was the game's name and genre. It's been a long wait for any further updates, so this may be the only bit of Physint news for a while, especially if the game isn't expected until around 2030.

Right now, all Kojima fans can do is wait until Kojima Productions is ready to further lift the veil on Physint. Waiting can be a pain, but on the bright side, 007 First Light not only brings another spy thriller to the mix, but it showcases a brand-new perspective of the character that inspired Kojima's foray into the genre in the first place.
