With Daniel Craig confirming that No Time to Die was his last outing as James Bond, many have wondered who would be the next actor in line to replace Craig as the cinematic spy. A recent fanart depicted one actor who could potentially fit the bill as the new 007 - Henry Cavill.
The Fanart displayed Cavill wearing the typical James Bond tuxedo to give fans a taste of what the British actor would look like if he played 007 in the franchise's next installment.
The artwork by Rahalarts included a caption that reads, "Would you like to see Henry Cavill as the next James Bond? #HenryCavill #JamesBond #Bond26," as it donned Cavill with the James Bond duds with the 007 logo in the background as well as London to give fans that authentic James Bond feel. Cavill is also holding a gun in his left hand much like Bond would when he would be carrying out his mission. Cavill also has the on-the-lookout face that Bond would usually have whenever he takes on his next assignment to assure that he was ready to go no matter what was coming his way. The real question is, did the fans buy it?
The fanart of Cavill as Bond has gone viral on Twitter, amassing over 2,000 likes with users everywhere starting a massive conversation about whether Cavill would fit the role. While everyone agrees that Cavill would fit in the looks department to play Bond, many argued whether he had the acting chops to adequately replace what Craig brought for a decade and a half. The common consensus is that Cavill could pull off the look, but fans couldn't decipher if his acting abilities could help him succeed as a spy. Granted, he's played a spy in the past - Mission Impossible: Fallout - but that doesn't necessarily mean he can seamlessly play Bond.
Another possible hangup would be if Cavill comes back to play Superman for the DCEU. There have been rumblings that Cavill will come back to play the most iconic superhero ever created, but nothing is official as of now. If Cavill winds up returning to play the Man of Steel, then that would potentially get in the way of him playing James Bond. Remember when Robert Downey Jr. Played Tony Stark and Sherlock Holmes at the same time? There's a reason we haven't gotten a Sherlock Holmes movie starring RDJ in years.
In the past, most actors who took on the James Bond role eventually found it to be a star-making role, most recently with Craig. While Craig has established himself as a respected actor beforehand, Casino Royale made him a leading man in Hollywood. Cavill to some degree is already an established name in Hollywood from his work as Superman and in The Witcher, but hey, there's always a first time for everything.
No Time to Die can currently be streamed on Amazon Prime.
