Surprisingly, Helldivers 2 is coming to Xbox platforms, while PlayStation fans are also being treated to a former Xbox exclusive, Gears of War: Reloaded, at the same time. On August 26, Xbox gamers are being recruited to Helldivers 2’s Galactic War, joining the fight to spread managed democracy to the far reaches of the galaxy, in the name of Super Earth.
After over a year of PC and PlayStation gamers fighting in the Galactic War, the original unwritten rules of Helldivers 2 still stand true, except with a few new insights that have developed now that more and more players have reached the peak of Helldivers 2’s endgame progression. So, thanks to the hindsight of the game’s dedicated community, Xbox recruits who will be joining the fight in Helldivers 2 would be wise to learn these unwritten rules for the game ahead of joining the fight, as opposed to learning them the hard way like other gamers had to do.
Helldivers' Xbox Armor Sets Aren't the Only Rare Cosmetics That Deserve a Comeback
Although it's great that some of Helldivers 2's rare armor sets are making a return with the game's Xbox port, other items should come back, as well.
PvP Has No Place in Helldivers 2’s Galactic War
Friendly Fire is a Part of the Charm
Despite a lack of PvP game modes in Helldivers 2, accidental friendly fire is a common occurrence, even among high-level players. With countless explosions going on at any given time, and bullets constantly flying in multiple directions, it’s almost impossible to completely avoid friendly fire in Helldivers 2. It can certainly be frustrating on occasion, but friendly fire is ultimately something that players will have to adjust to.
Loot is Earned as a Team
One lesson that PC and PlayStation players had to learn the hard way was that the collectible Samples in Helldivers 2 are awarded to the entire team at the end of a mission, no matter how many Samples each player collected individually. Aside from Samples, any other currencies or resources collected in Helldivers 2 will also be shared among the entire team, though Super Credits, Warbond Medals, and Requisition Slips will be awarded immediately upon collecting them instead of after the mission ends.
Major Orders and Planet Liberation are Team Efforts
Players are generally free to fight their personal preference of Automatons, Terminids, or Illuminates at any given point, and still make advancements throughout Helldivers 2’s many progression systems. However, liberating planets and completing Major Orders in Helldivers 2 will require players to unite towards a common goal or risk defeat.
Helldivers 2’s Higher Difficulties Require Anti-Armor and Explosive Loadouts
At this point in the ongoing Galactic War, each of the enemy factions in Helldivers 2 has a wide variety of enemy units, with more unique enemy units constantly being added. The different difficulty levels ultimately dictate which of these enemies can spawn in a given mission. At difficulty level 7, this is typically where heavily-armored enemies will begin to spawn, and they will be increasingly more plentiful on each of the subsequent difficulty levels.
In desperate times, the Hellpod that most Stratagems arrive in can be used as an anti-tank weapon, including the reinforcement Hellpods that players arrive in. However, strictly relying on Hellpods as the players’ only anti-armor weapon isn’t sustainable on high-difficulty missions because of how common heavily-armored enemies will be.
Share Stratagems at Convenient Moments
With ammo and lives being a scarce resource in Helldivers 2, players should consider sharing their Stratagems with teammates, especially the support weapon and backpack Stratagems. This way, newer players will be able to use some of Helldivers 2's best anti-armor Support weapons that normally aren’t available until the endgame, which can make a huge difference, no matter the difficulty level of the current mission. However, it’s best to communicate via Helldivers 2’s quick-chats, pings, or voice/text chat whenever it’s unclear if a player is offering their Stratagems for the team to use, instead of taking them without permission.
