Helldivers 2 Fans Take Issue with the State of the Game
On social media sites like Reddit, Helldivers 2 fans are complaining about the game's optimization, file bloat, and that their PCs seem to be barely able to play the game at all. Players have pointed out that on PC, the game now occupies more than 140GB worth of storage space. Some believe that this may be due to using outdated methods of hard drive optimization that utilize more space to make the game play better on older hard drives. Unfortunately, it doesn't add any performance benefits for SSDs, which most modern gaming rigs typically use. Other players have shared the powerful PC specs of the systems they use to play the game, yet report that they're still facing issues like the game freezing shortly after opening it, as well as lag and glitching audio during a breach.
Some players have also pointed out that the developers behind the game said that the team's focus, starting in August, would be bug fixing and optimization. However, the current state of the game seems to indicate anything but that. Players are calling on Arrowhead Game Studios to stop pushing out content and story updates until the game is in a playable state for everyone. Some have expressed frustration and feel that the developers may have put too much time into the Helldivers 2 Xbox release, rather than fixing the issues with the existing versions of the game.
At the moment, it's clear that something needs to change with Helldivers 2, and soon. While Helldivers 2 has been wildly popular, solid gameplay and a fun multiplayer experience don't mean anything if players' systems struggle to get the game to work. Playerbases have turned their backs on popular games in the past when their complaints go unheeded and their systems can't properly play a game. It would be in Arrowhead's interest to address the issues the fanbase has raised soon.
