Arrowhead Game Studios has teased more Illuminate content coming to Helldivers 2, stating, “We’re not done there.” Helldivers 2 players have been treated to a wealth of exciting content, recently having to defend Super Earth from the Illuminate threat in the “Battle of Super Earth.” However, it seems like Arrowhead is not done yet with this faction and is preparing some new challenges for players.
The cooperative third-person shooter smash hit Helldivers 2 has undergone significant evolution since its 2024 release, with Arrowhead improving not only the gameplay but also further enhancing the game’s narrative. Through many updates, the game has introduced new weapons, armor sets, mission types, enemies, and more. In Helldivers 2’s Omens of Tyranny update, the developer introduced the Illuminate as a formidable new enemy faction, bringing fresh challenges to players. These enemies employ advanced technology to control other beings or machinery, adding more complexity to the battlefield. Despite a few setbacks, most of these updates have been well-received by the community, with players praising the game's ongoing evolution.
Helldivers 2’s Leaked New Enemies Could Mean One Faction is Back with a Vengeance
Leaks have teased a new enemy type, and if true, a powerful Helldivers 2 faction may become even more of a force to be reckoned with.
During a recent exchange on the game’s Discord channel, players were curious about Arrowhead’s future plans for Helldivers 2’s Illuminate faction, asking the developer whether “more squid stuff” was coming. Without providing a fully fleshed-out answer, Arrowhead community manager Baskinator responded, saying that “we’re not done there” and confirmed that the studio still has “more stories to tell everywhere in the Galactic War.”
Helldivers 2 Is ‘Not Done’ with the Illuminate Faction
While this response, along with Helldivers 2’s recent leaks, points to more Illuminate content coming in the future, Baskinator's comments also suggest that Arrowhead is planning to bring new content to the wider “Galactic War.” In another recent exchange, the community manager also revealed that the studio was working to introduce even tougher enemies, following player feedback that the game wasn’t feeling challenging enough. Some of the recent leaks have revealed new Illuminate enemies, including one that functions like a sniper-assassin with the ability to teleport and lunge at the player, and another that resembles the Watcher and can also shoot lasers.
In addition to new content, the Galactic War will expand to an unexpected new platform. On August 26, Helldivers 2 will be released on Xbox Series X/S, marking a historic day for both PlayStation and Xbox. While Xbox players await their opportunity to join the war, Arrowhead is hard at work bringing more challenges led by the Illuminate faction.
