Players who are new to Helldivers 2 might not be familiar with its in-game holiday, Liberty Day. Characteristically bombastic and self-indulgent, Liberty Day celebrates Super Earth and the Federation every October 26 in commemoration of the anniversary of Managed Democracy, with the holiday honored since 2016 (the first anniversary of Arrowhead’s original Helldivers).
Liberty Day is known to feature surprise dissident executions (it could be you!), as well as Liberty Day pyres, meetings with Helldivers, and enlistments “for your kids.”
As a tradition that’s now been adopted by Helldivers 2, Liberty Day is especially exciting for the game’s community due to it typically involving free rewards. Thanks to a chronicle of previous goodies doled out for Liberty Day, it’s possible to narrow down what you may be able to anticipate later this month.
Helldivers’ Liberty Day Rewards Spell Out a History of Fun Items
Liberty Day is quickly approaching. If Helldivers’ Liberty Days of old surmise a patternable formula, it might be quite plain what players can look forward to:

- Liberty cape
- Community cape
- Developer cape
Helldivers Liberty Day 2017
- Heavy Strafing Run stratagem
- A/GL-28 Launcher Turret
- ‘Thunderer’ Smoke Round stratagem
Helldivers Liberty Day 2018
- MGX-42 Machine Gun
-
Planet difficulties:
- 13 - An Exercise in Futility
- 14 - The Definition of Insanity
- 15 - The Inner Circle of Hell
Helldivers Liberty Day 2019
- Proving Grounds game mode
- 9 Proving Grounds capes

Helldivers 2 Liberty Day 2024
- R-2142 Constitution
- DP-00 Tactical armor and helmet
Helldivers 2’s first anniversary was last year, and it held the sequel’s first Liberty Day celebration. It’s too soon to say with certainty that the second anniversary will mimic Helldivers’ second, but a Constitution rifle released on both games’ first Liberty Days could suggest that the sequel intends to mirror what its predecessor did.
If I was a betting man, a new commemorative cape wouldn’t be a bad guess, considering how many capes were released as Liberty Day rewards over the last nine years, not to mention how many beloved Helldivers 2 commemorative capes there are already. Personally, I’d love to see Helldivers 2’s take on the Launcher Turret.
An educated guess, based purely on 2024’s festivities, would be that this year’s Liberty Day will grant players another original Helldivers-inspired gun and armor set, perhaps sans cape.
However, if Helldivers 2’s second Liberty Day is an unprecedented departure from what we may expect, I’d be thrilled with any weapon, armor set, or stratagem we could potentially get. Overall, it may be inappropriate to expect too much, and Arrowhead did a great job of mitigating excessive expectations by releasing a humble amount of content last year. If a slew of content is released, players can be pleasantly startled. But if only a few items are handed out, players will rejoice all the same.
Helldivers 2 is Receiving a Performance Patch This October
This year, Arrowhead has a lot on its plate, and Liberty Day may be a joyous occasion in more ways than one. Arrowhead recently announced that it plans to have a patch go out in mid- to late-October, possibly landing it squarely around Liberty Day, that aims to tackle a handful of Helldivers 2’s performance issues.
Ironically, this patch could be more than enough of a reason to toast Helldivers 2’s success and sing its praises, depending on what technical problems are actually resolved. Nonetheless, we Helldivers should be eternally grateful for how transparent Arrowhead is regarding Helldivers 2’s development, and allowing the studio ample time to marinate, simmer, and slow-roast the game is the least we can do to show our gratitude.
