Arrowhead Game Studios is giving away a free weapon and armor set in Helldivers 2. The giveaway comes as part of Helldivers 2's Liberty Day celebrations, which have previously taken place annually on October 26 for the original game.
Following the reception to Helldivers 2 throughout 2024 has been a complete rollercoaster. It launched to huge praise from players and critics alike, although later balance changes led many players astray from the action-packed third-person shooter. This, combined with a post-launch requirement for players on PC to connect their accounts with the PlayStation Network, saw Helldivers 2 get review-bombed multiple times across the year. With recent updates, Arrowhead Game Studio has brought the game back on the right track, and players are feeling more positive about what the future holds for Helldivers 2.
As part of the October 26 Liberty Day celebrations for this year, Arrowhead Game Studios is marking the occasion with a new weapon and Helldivers 2 armor for players to use. The weapon, the R-2124, is a new bolt-action rifle that players can use to spread managed democracy. It doesn't look like the most efficient weapon in the game, but it does seem like tons of fun to use. The new armor set is the DP-00 Tactical Armor, which is just classic Helldivers - it could have been pulled straight from the game's cover art.
Helldivers 2 Celebrates Liberty Day 2024 With Free Armor
There's good news for any gamers who won't be around on Liberty Day to claim the new Helldivers 2 goodies. While the announcement initially implied that players would have to take part on the day to receive the armor, Arrowhead Game Studios community manager Katherine Baskin confirmed on the game's Discord server that "everyone will get the items." The Liberty Day event also comes with a one-day Helldivers 2 Major Order, although to complete this, players can fight "wherever and however you elect," whether that be against bots or bugs.
Looking forward, there's plenty for Helldivers 2 fans to get excited about. The Truth Enforcers Warbond is set for release soon, which will give gamers even more tools to fight the Terminids and Automatons. Very recently, it was revealed that a Helldivers 2 Xbox port is still on the table if Sony and Microsoft were able to come to an agreement. Admittedly, that's a pretty big "if," but it's good to know the idea hasn't disappeared completely. Hopefully, Arrowhead Game Studios can continue its current streak of positive balance changes that fans enjoy, especially as more content gets added to the game.
