The Redacted Regiment Warbond in Helldivers 2 finally gave fans suppressed weapons and other tools that makes stealth a viable tactic. Together with the stealth changes implemented by the patch that came alongside this Warbond, players can now clear enemy bases without being detected. However, such a niche playstyle is bound to not resonate with every player in Helldivers 2, and if you're not particularly interested in being squeaky, the question remains: is the Redacted Regiment Warbond worth getting?
Helldivers 2: Best Weapons to Use Against The Illuminate
Here are the best weapons per category for dealing with all the units of the Illuminate faction in Helldivers 2.
Helldivers 2 Redacted Regiment Warbond Review
To answer the question: yes, Redacted Regiment is a good addition to the game, but only if you plan on playing stealthily. It's nowhere near as good as other HD2 Warbonds like Democratic Detonation or the other top-tier options because of its niche. Redacted Regiment's offerings are all tailored for sneaking around, and they lose a lot of value once the enemies start shooting back or come barreling towards you. Let's break this Warbond down according to the stuff it actually provides.
The Weapons: R-72 Censor & AR-59 Suppressor
Much like the M7S SMG from the Halo ODST Warbond, these weapons come equipped with suppressors that are effective at quietly taking targets down. Both of these have light armor penetration, which means you'll have to aim for weakspots if you want to make the most out of them.
As mentioned earlier, these weapons lose a ton of value in direct engagements. That's because the Censor and Suppressor aren't really that different from the Diligence and Liberator Carbine respectively. They work more or less the same as those two other guns but with slower-travelling bullets and a lower fire rate in the Suppressor's case. The logic works both ways, of course, but don't expect the Censor or the Suppressor to blow you away once things get chaotic.
Also, it's worth mentioning that the Censor greatly outperforms the Suppressor in terms of stealth. If you want to be sneaky, you absolutely need to take enemies down with one shot, and the Suppressor cannot take Devastators or Berserkers down with one headshot.
Both Censor and Suppressor are impractical for stealth against the Illuminate and Terminids since the majority of their units have high health.
The Armor Passive: Reduced Signature
Reduced Signature makes you 50% quieter when moving, and it reduces enemy visual detection range on you by 40%. When you're wearing armor that uses this passive, your enemies are practically blind and deaf. This sounds great on paper, but again, it's completely worthless once the enemy starts fighting back.
The Secondary Weapon: P-35 Re-Educator
This is easily the worst part of the Warbond. It's a dart pistol that fires Gas-infused projectiles, which means it can cause the same confusion effect that other Gas weapons do. However, firing this weapon at an enemy will alert all other enemies to your location, making it ironically useless for stealth. The damage it does is bad too, sitting at only 60 on-hit and 25 per second with the Gas effect.
The Lure Mine
Lure Mines are quite good simply due to how well they can divert the enemy's attention. Placing one of these down can cause an entire train of enemies to look at it instead of you, giving you time to escape or wipe all of your targets out with something else. The mines themselves do good damage, and you can even use them against bigger targets like Impalers in a pinch.
This is one of the better offerings from the Redacted Regiment Warbond, and it shines best against Terminids and Illuminate, where you'll have to worry more about hordes of melee enemies that can get right into your face. They're not bad against Automatons, but the bots might end up shooting and hitting the mines, causing them to detonate and lose their effect while dealing no damage to ranged enemies.
The Support Weapon: C4 Pack
In contrast to the Re-Educator, the C4 Pack may just be the best part of the HD2 Redacted Regiment Warbond, but even then, it's a bit disappointing. It does its job of blowing things up well, but there's one catch: C4 explosives cannot destroy objectives like jammers, detectors, or even Bile Titan holes. Its main use is to stealthily destroy outposts or blow up heavily-armored enemies like Factory Striders, tanks, and more.
Also, the C4 Pack counts as a support weapon, and you need to carry a backpack in order to use it. Since each C4 brick is thrown, the Servo-Assisted armor perk will work with it.
As of writing, if you're the host of the lobby, the C4 Pack will alert enemies if you throw one near them, making it hard to use stealthily. Whether or not this is a bug is yet to be confirmed, though it likely is.
The Booster: Concealed Insertion
Like the other Hellpod-based boosters, Concealed Insertion just isn't that useful compared to ones like Vitality Boost or the omnipresent Hellpod Space Optimization booster. This causes all of your Hellpods to deploy a cloud of smoke on impact, concealing your location and blinding enemies. Concealed Insertion is definitely more useful than the others since it has no negative effect on you, though, but the smoke clouds will mess with sentry gun targeting. If anyone on your team plans on bringing sentry guns, it may be better to not use this booster.
