The brave soldiers of the Super Earth Armed Forces are more than just mindless NPCs in Helldivers 2. They're more than capable of handling themselves, and with the infallible leadership of a Helldiver, they become a serious force to be reckoned with, provided friendly fire doesn't take them out of the picture, of course.
SEAF Troopers spawn randomly on Super Earth maps during defense campaigns, and while they can hold ground and occasionally destroy enemy buildings and side objectives by themselves, players can form temporary squads with them for maximum liberation. Here's how to boss these brave men and women around so they become more useful.

How to Control SEAF Troopers
All SEAF soldiers can be temporarily recruited to the players' squads by using the Follow Me voice command. To use voice commands, hold your ping button (Q on PC, R1/RT on controllers), then select the Follow Me option on the top right. Doing so will cause all nearby SEAF soldiers to follow your lead for the rest of the mission.
Troopers are armed with the standard AR-23 Liberator and a few grenades, and some come equipped with EAT-17 launchers. They don't fight as fiercely as Helldivers, but a full squad of SEAF troopers can hold their own against Illuminate patrols. They'll shoot with their rifles, chuck grenades, and fire their rocket launchers at big targets like Fleshmobs and Harvesters.
The best part about these guys is that they can destroy outposts and objectives like Cognitive Disruptors with their weapons. If you're playing solo, or if you're far away from your squadmates, try getting some troopers to follow you to an objective. They'll automatically target parked ships and Disruptor generators once they're in range.
SEAF soldiers will hold their ground if you use the Wait voice command on them. Once you don't need their help anymore, have them guard a chokepoint so they remain effective even without your influence.
Still, don't expect much from SEAF ground forces unless they come in large numbers. They don't shoot their rifles as often as one would expect, and when the enemy comes in full force, they can easily get swept away by the chaos, especially if players start calling in sentry turrets.
Also, it's worth noting that SEAF soldiers don't move as quickly as a sprinting Helldiver. If you've noticed that the troopers you recruited are gone, they're probably just lagging behind. Also, they can occasionally get stuck in terrain, and sometimes, they'll just outright stop following players. Using the Follow Me command usually does the trick, though.
