A Helldivers 2 player shared a glimpse of how they were eliminated mere moments before extraction, owing to a failed dive. In Helldivers 2, extraction is the final act of a mission, which involves the player making an escape on a space shuttle.
Since releasing back in February, Helldivers 2 has had an epic run by all means, selling millions of copies and accruing tons of players across PC and PS5. Its instant success made sure that the co-op shooter game became the fastest-selling PlayStation game in history. Being an extremely popular title, there are numerous players pulling off memorable moments in the game at any given time. One such moment also stemmed from the misfortune of a Helldivers 2 player attempting an extraction.
A recent Helldivers 2 video making rounds on Reddit shows the player surviving a deadly fall, only to ultimately die mid-dive just moments away from being extracted back to safety. In the clip, the player is shown making a hurried exit to the extraction point, having completed their objective to dismantle Automatons. As evident, just before getting onboard the shuttle, they are unexpectedly squashed into a barricade while making a dive into the aircraft and, hence, killed because of the impact. The irony of the player character enduring an awkward fall from a significant height, only to get killed seconds later so close to the end of the mission is what has been cracking up Reddit users. The hilarious incident has garnered a variety of amusing responses from the Helldivers 2 community.
Users React to Helldivers 2 Player's Hilarious Failed Extraction
The majority of comments in the post joked about the funny turn of events that happened as the player reached out for the extraction shuttle. A user pointed out that, since the player made it through what would have otherwise been a lethal fall, the game orchestrated their death in the end to "balance things." Another one stated, "That’s a whole Final Destination plotline in 11 seconds." Making fun of the author's doomed dive, a user wrote, "This man put the dive in helldivers [sic]." While being eliminated close to the doors of the shuttle may seem very unfortunate, it could have been worse as Helldivers 2 players have been killed even after boarding the ship in the past.
As the third-person shooter title continues to draw strong engagement, developer Arrowhead Game Studios is constantly working toward maintaining the game.
