Helldivers 2 puts its titular Helldivers to task in a plethora of mission types across Automaton, Illuminate, and Terminid planets. Not every mission type is wholly unique to one Helldivers 2 enemy faction, but each of them does permit rare encounters and objectives that the others won’t. It may be easy to determine players’ favorite factions depending on the mission types they prefer, for instance, determining whether they consider themselves a Botdiver, Squiddiver, or Bugdiver.
Interestingly, Evacuate High-Value Assets is one of the only ubiquitous and homogenous mission types in Helldivers 2. This mission, similar to any other, has pros and cons based on player preferences. Players seeking to loot resources such as samples, Super Credits, Requisition slips, or medals would be remiss not to avoid Evacuate missions altogether, while anyone who wants to be in and out of a mission quickly might enjoy them more. That said, the Evacuate mission has become stale due to its lack of variance and rewards, and turning it on its head could yield a great new mission type.
Helldivers 2 Has a Big Choice to Make When It Comes to ‘Squiddiving’
Helldivers 2 has deservedly put squids on a pedestal, and there's an argument to be made that they should continue to lead Major Orders and events.
Evacuate High-Value Assets is Hardly Worth Divers’ Efforts on Level 10 Difficulty
A squad’s worth of poorly conceived loadouts and no defensive strategies can make for an abysmal match nonetheless, but Helldivers 2’s Evacuate High-Value Assets mission type is difficult to have go horribly wrong otherwise. There are a handful of ways to make Evacuate missions go smoothly, and yet, with so little variety in what’s thrown at or asked of players, it is undoubtedly one of the more static missions players will engage with.
The only chief difference is that players will contend with enemies dropping in from the skies on bot and squid Evacuate missions, whereas bugs only emerge from the ground.
Furthermore, unless players truly adore the Evacuate mission, there is hardly any reason to select it over anything else because of how few rewards they receive from it; for example, Evacuate missions do not naturally grant any samples, which is doubly futile when paired with a Helldivers 2 Personal Order like the game’s current one: successfully extract with 5 rare samples. Rather, this mission type could be wholly revitalized if the tables were turned and players swapped from defense to offense and laid an assault on an enemy faction’s defended compound.
Helldivers 2 Needs an Offensive Mode for Evacuate Missions
All Evacuate missions would need to be rejuvenated is an inversion where players dive behind enemy lines before barreling through defenses toward a power supply or other miscellaneous objective goal. Admittedly, such a mission type may only work against bots or squids due to their superior intelligence and organizational skills.
In particular, bots could feasibly have defensive compounds and walls that players must penetrate while also contending with Automatons flooding the area via fabricators. Like infiltrating a heavily fortified Fortress in a regular Automaton mission, there could also be turrets lining compound surfaces.
In such a confined space and not a lot of room to operate before beginning their assault, players would need to dive into such missions with a carefully considered loadout that can puncture enemy defenses as swiftly and efficiently as possible. Plus, it would only be fair if players had as little time to conquer the enemy’s base as enemies do in the Evacuate mission’s normal circumstances—20 minutes.
Unlike Evacuate missions, an offensive mode could allow players to loot samples, Super Credits, Requisition slips, and medals from bunkers or other facilities of the enemy’s base. It’s not likely that Helldivers 2 will receive an offensive variation of Evacuate High-Value Assets any time soon, if at all, though it would be a wonderful way to reinvigorate an already exciting and fun mission type.
