Helldivers 2 players are calling for developer Arrowhead Game Studios to add more customization options for characters’ capes, allowing users to wear them in different fashions, as opposed to the current default design. While Helldivers 2 does allow players to customize their capes with different designs, one user has come up with a simple yet effective option to add a unique flare to the popular third-person shooter.
Arrowhead Game Studios’ gigantic third-person shooter continues to be one of Sony’s most successful releases of 2024, despite various controversies that have occurred in recent months. Helldivers 2 has been at the receiving end of two review bombings this year, with the first being sparked after PlayStation attempted to force all PC players to link their Steam account with a PSN account. The decision was later backtracked, but Helldivers 2 found itself in hot water once again after the game’s biggest update to date included “unnecessary” nerfs, according to the community.
Following the massive amount of backlash from the community, Arrowhead released a new “buff” patch that made a plethora of different weapons and stratagems much stronger. But now Helldivers 2 players are calling for new customization options to be added to the game, specifically in regards to characters’ capes. Over on Reddit, one user mocked up what it could look like if Arrowhead included different cape styles, and fans are absolutely loving it.

The user noted that the cape is an important part of Helldivers 2 and it would “be cool if [players] could wear them in different ways.” They then included three different designs, which can be seen above, showcasing how the Helldivers 2 cape could potentially look if Arrowhead allowed users to wear it in different ways. Other users quickly chimed in with their own ideas, with one user suggesting that Arrowhead could release themed Warbonds, such as a Wild West edition with a poncho and cowboy hat. Another Reddit user urged the studio to “get on this immediately.”
While it may seem unlikely that Arrowhead actually implement this change, the studio has been incredibly receptive when it comes to feedback from the community. After the launch of Helldivers 2's Escalation of Freedom update, fans were disappointed to see so many nerfs for weapons and stratagems that they believed were not necessary. The backlash resulted in the studio promising to only make nerfs when absolutely necessary, followed by a new patch on September 18 with update 1.001.100 that included a plethora of buffs. So it looks like anything is possible if the community wants it badly enough.
