Mega Cities are officially a ubiquitous mission biome in Helldivers 2 with Automatons finally invading Super Earth’s advertisement-laden metropolises in their red corner of the galaxy. At first, Mega Cities were spectacular since they brought players to Super Earth in cinematic fashion. Now, it’s been thrilling to see how each Helldivers 2 enemy faction behaves in Mega Cities’ skyscraper labyrinths. Indeed, with a new bot biome also comes new missions and objectives, demonstrating that the bots are claiming these cities as their own with as much resistance as autonomously possible.

Like the Illuminate or Terminid threats, it’s exhilarating seeing Automaton forces flood enormous city streets. In particular, bots have established fortified dens full of fabricators and, on these biomes, feature the following new city mission types:

  • Destroy Command Bunkers
    • Cut the bots off from their information network by destroying their Command Bunkers.
  • Sabotage Air Base
    • Sabotage Automaton air capabilities in the region.
  • Sabotage Supply Bases
    • Infiltrate Automaton territory and destroy their fuel and munitions stockpiles.

A beautiful aspect of Helldivers 2 is how almost any loadout of stratagems or equipment can be a valuable arsenal. On city missions, with operations presently taking place on Claorell’s Majosyri, Quasar, and Zenith, as well as Gaellivare’s Malmberget, it’s been fascinating to witness what arsenals players adorn themselves with. But, considering the defensive strongholds and mass hordes of bots players dive down to fell, one stratagem loadout may prove highly advantageous in holding liberty’s cities.

Helldivers 2 Has a Big Choice to Make When It Comes to ‘Squiddiving’

Helldivers 2 has deservedly put squids on a pedestal, and there's an argument to be made that they should continue to lead Major Orders and events.

Helldivers 2’s Bot City Missions Demand Orbital Salvation

An ideal stratagem loadout for efficiently wiping objectives, specifically on Mega City maps against Automatons, is as follows:

  • EAT-17 Expendable Anti-Tank/GR-8 Recoilless Rifle/MLS-4X Commando, etc. (Essentially any reliable anti-tank supply stratagem permit in Helldivers 2 that suits the player’s preference and can take out stationary turrets/mortars, much less any heavy-armored Automaton)
  • Orbital 380MM HE Barrage
  • Orbital Laser
  • Eagle 500KG Bomb

Now, naysayers might see this loadout and think to themselves: “How could almost all nukes be the play when there are so many jammers?” It’s true—Helldivers 2’s Mega City bot invasions are saturated with stratagem jammers, and it’s impossible to call down a swarm of nukes when they’re active in the vicinity. However, because no stratagems at all can be called down in such circumstances, no other stratagem is going to be as immediately useful to them, either.

Players could take the scenic route and determine where the jammer’s circumference extends to in order to call down a supply stratagem beyond its range, for instance, but they must still contend with everything that awaits them at that jammer’s compound, carving through enemies like Samwise Gamgee against orcs when ascending Cirith Ungol, to reach the deactivation terminal. Instead, players’ equipment loadout, composed of a primary weapon, secondary weapon, and throwable, is what’ll ideally help them clear a stratagem jammer base, either solo or with others.

Plus, players can destroy a stratagem jammer with a nuke after the tower has been deactivated, saving them the precious time of having to call down a Hellbomb and trigger it without being slain in the excruciatingly long process.

It would also seem ill-advised to bring Helldivers 2’s Orbital Laser as it will have a godawful go of finding a suitable position to begin firing amid a sea of skyscrapers blocking optimal lines of sight, which is the most grating element of Mega City maps. Still, an Orbital Laser is second to none in terms of guaranteeing a wider devastation real estate if players can get one to fire on an open base to swiftly purge fabricators and detector towers, behaving as a sort of insurance if an Orbital 380MM HE Barrage unfortunately fails to strike anything important or clear side objectives in its scope.

In any case, players would be mistaken bringing a scalpel into Mega City bot missions when what’s truly called for is a hammer, and the Orbital 380MM HE Barrage, Orbital Laser, and Eagle 500KG Bomb are perfect choices for players to throw within almost any red circle on the map for maximum results. This is easier said than done lately, though, as city mission biomes are currently littered with Helldivers 2’s Incineration Corps bots and stratagem jammers.
