The newly appointed CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios, Shams Jorjani, wants to know how Helldivers 2 players would spend all of their resources, such as medals, samples, and requisition slips, if they had the choice. The CEO, who replaced Johan Pilestedt in May, recently took to social media to get some ideas from the Helldivers 2 community.
Currently, Helldivers 2 has various different forms of in-game currency for players to spend. Medals, for example, can be obtained by simply playing the game and can be spent on new Warbond content, Helldivers 2's version of a Battle Pass. There are also Samples, which come in three different rarities and can be used to upgrade a player's in-game ship. Requisition Slips, which allow players to acquire new Stratagems and Ship Modules, and finally, Super Credits, which can be used in the in-game store to purchase new cosmetic items. The only problem is, players are maxed out on most of these different resources, so Arrowhead wants to know what the community would like to spend them on.
Starship Troopers: Extermination Has One Clear Advantage Over Helldivers 2
Starship Troopers: Extermination, the first-person co-op shooter from Offworld Industries, has a big advantage over Helldivers 2 in one key area.
In a new post on Reddit, Jorjani asked the Helldivers 2 community to "brainstorm" some ideas on the best way to use resources for progression. The CEO noted that Arrowhead is aware that many players have capped out on resources and are sitting on "mounds of digital gold," as Jorjani put it. As such, Arrowhead appears to be investigating new ways for players to spend their built up currency on new forms of progression.
Helldivers 2 Looking To Add New Ways To Spend Currency
After acknowledging the mountain of resources players have stacked up, Arrowhead's CEO said the studio wants users' best ideas regarding how to use their resources patriotically to further the war cause. While Jorjani said Arrowhead already has its own ideas on how to add new types of currency progression, the studio appears to be eager to see what the community would come up with.
The responses were varied, but the most upvoted comment in the thread suggested the players be able to convert resources between each other. If someone is low on Medals, for example, converting other types of resources into a type that they need more could be extremely beneficial for players. The same comment also suggested that Arrowhead implement a feature from the original Helldivers that lets players use resources to upgrade weapons, stratagems, and attachments. However, they acknowledged that this would take "a ton of dev effort." Other suggestions included allowing players to donate their resources to gain a temporary buff, crafting medals to place on armor, and other cosmetic improvements.
Arrowhead is clearly eager to hear feedback from the Helldivers 2 community, but the CEO stated that the ideas put forward by fans might not necessarily make it into the game. Currently, the studio is gearing up to release a massive new update on August 6, known as the Escalation of Freedom update. This brand-new content patch will not only add new missions and hazards, but some daunting new enemies for players to challenge.
The Escalation of Freedom update is shaping up to be Helldivers 2's biggest to date, and it couldn't come at a better time. The game's concurrent player count fell to an all-time low last month, with those sticking around likely yearning for some fresh content.
