These are just some of the possibilities that could happen, and it would be interesting to see where Arrowhead Game Studios takes things if Super Earth falls. Hopefully, whatever direction the developer takes, should it happen, is one that can be looked forward to, as such a colossal failure should lead to an outcome that's just as severe but affects the game in a good way.
How the Failure to Defend Super Earth Could Lead to Something Extreme
If the Illuminate succeeds, it could throw the future of Helldivers 2 into a state of uncertainty, as just about anything could happen. However, there is one other distinct possibility that would certainly surprise everyone, which is that the result of the battle for Super Earth could be the stepping stone towards a sequel title. It would be a risky and bold move on Arrowhead Game Studios' part, but one that could pay off given what there is to work with to set up a potential Helldivers 3.
With the destruction of Super Earth and every player no longer having a planet to receive major orders from, such a situation can be seen as a good way to justify the signs of a third entry. All Arrowhead Game Studios has to do is ensure the conclusion to the event, assuming people fail it, is executed well, and everyone will likely be excited and welcome the outcome.
With Helldivers 2's latest update being a massive success, Arrowhead Game Studios must ensure that whatever plans it has for what's after leave fans satisfied. Hopefully, the developer has considered the best possible course of action if the mission to save Super Earth fails, as the current state of the battle looks as if that will be the most likely outcome, and the game must be prepared should it be.
