Of all the things Arrowhead Game Studios has done for Helldivers 2, the most recent one might be the most chaotic yet enjoyable. The developer surprised everyone with the Heart of Democracy update, suddenly dropping it and showing why players should always be on their toes for something exciting to happen in the game. The major patch sees the Illuminate faction directly threatening Super Earth, landing and invading the planet to rid the universe of humanity's greatest symbol of democracy. As great as this may all sound for both the game and the players, the battle itself poses a question, one that could highly affect Arrowhead Game Studios' plans for the future.

The fight for Super Earth is undoubtedly a major event for Helldivers 2, one that many are actively participating in. However, should the players fail to stop the invading Illuminate force from conquering Super Earth, it's unclear where the game would go from there. This is a very important question, considering that it could very well happen. With such a highly significant looming possibility, people can only speculate as to what Arrowhead Game Studios will do if it should take place, and whether people will like what comes afterward will depend entirely on the developer.

Helldivers 2: How to Destroy Illuminate Leviathans

Illuminate Leviathans in Helldivers 2 are tough, but they can be killed relatively quickly if you know where to hit them.

Where Helldivers 2 Could Go if the Illuminate Win the Battle for Super Earth

The battle for Super Earth shows the full might of the Illuminate, and because the faction is holding nothing back, players might find themselves in a situation where they have a good chance of losing. If they do fail to defend the most important planet that's spearheading the goal of galactic freedom, then there are a few ways the game can go:

  • The successful invasion of the Illuminate could lead to a fourth faction, but one that sides with humanity and provides new hope towards reaching galactic freedom and taking revenge on the enemy responsible for ridding Super Earth.
  • Players could be forced to abandon Super Earth and find a new planet to continue their operations, possibly starting anew in a different galaxy until they can recover and return.
  • Humanity could be fragmented, with different military bodies being created on the remaining colonized planets where players receive orders and continue with the war effort, but in a more disorganized and less dignified manner.

These are just some of the possibilities that could happen, and it would be interesting to see where Arrowhead Game Studios takes things if Super Earth falls. Hopefully, whatever direction the developer takes, should it happen, is one that can be looked forward to, as such a colossal failure should lead to an outcome that's just as severe but affects the game in a good way.

How the Failure to Defend Super Earth Could Lead to Something Extreme

If the Illuminate succeeds, it could throw the future of Helldivers 2 into a state of uncertainty, as just about anything could happen. However, there is one other distinct possibility that would certainly surprise everyone, which is that the result of the battle for Super Earth could be the stepping stone towards a sequel title. It would be a risky and bold move on Arrowhead Game Studios' part, but one that could pay off given what there is to work with to set up a potential Helldivers 3.

With the destruction of Super Earth and every player no longer having a planet to receive major orders from, such a situation can be seen as a good way to justify the signs of a third entry. All Arrowhead Game Studios has to do is ensure the conclusion to the event, assuming people fail it, is executed well, and everyone will likely be excited and welcome the outcome.

With Helldivers 2's latest update being a massive success, Arrowhead Game Studios must ensure that whatever plans it has for what's after leave fans satisfied. Hopefully, the developer has considered the best possible course of action if the mission to save Super Earth fails, as the current state of the battle looks as if that will be the most likely outcome, and the game must be prepared should it be.
