How to Unlock the Fishing Hobby in Heartopia
Find Vanya the Fishing Expert
The Fishing hobby unlocks at Developer Level 2 in Heartopia, making it the first hobby available for players to unlock. Players will reach this level simply by following the story quests at the start of the game. After talking with Annie and becoming a Level 1 Developer with the D.G. Guild on your first day in town, head inside your home to go to sleep.
When you wake up, you'll have mail to check and a new villager waiting outside your home. Talking with them reveals that they are Vanya, the fishing expert in Heartopia. Vanya will mention fishing to you and ask that you make a repair kit to fix his fishing rod. Craft a repair kit and give it to them to complete the request.
After providing Vanya with their request, they will give you enough contribution levels to upgrade your Developer Level to Level 2 and earn a Hobby Expansion Ticket. Speak with Vanya one more time and give them the ticket to unlock the Fishing hobby.
How to Level Up the Fishing Hobby in Heartopia (& All Fishing Upgrades)

The Fishing hobby can be leveled up in the Hobby app on your smartwatch. Open up the Hobby app and tap on the Fishing hobby to enter its upgrade page. Fishing upgrades can be unlocked by increasing your Fishing Proficiency and using Hobby Upgrade Tickets, and here's what you can get with your upgrades:
- Fish Quality improvements increase the chance of catching fish with more stars. Additionally, they will allow players to catch 4-star fish at Level 4 and 5-star fish at Level 6.
- Fishing Rod Maintenance upgrades will increase the durability of your fishing rod.
- Fish Playing Skill upgrades increase the durability of your fishing line, allowing you to reel in fish for longer without breaking the line.
- Fish Playing Expert improvements give players a chance to catch a fish without needing to perform the fish-catching mini-game, up to 10%.
How to Catch Fish in Heartopia
A Fishing Step-By-Step
To start fishing, you'll need to tap on the toolbox icon in the lower right corner, then tap on the fishing rod to equip it. Afterward, walk to a body of water to look for fish. They will be noticeably darker than the surrounding water, making them pretty easy to spot.
Once you've found a fish to catch, face it while holding the rod. There will be a white circle with a flashing fish icon on top of the water. This icon represents where your bobber will land when you cast your fishing rod. You'll need to get this icon as close to the fish as possible. When you're ready to cast your rod, tap on the fishing rod icon in the bottom right corner to land your bobber in that white circle.
If you're struggling to position your bobber just right, hold down on the fishing rod icon to have a little more control over the bobber's position. When you think your bobber is close enough to the fish, let go of the fishing rod icon to cast your rod.
You'll know you've hooked a fish when the bobber disappears, and an exclamation mark has popped up on screen. When this happens, hold the fishing rod icon in the lower right corner of your screen to reel the fish in.
While reeling, the rod's fishing line will change colors, going from white to yellow to red. When the line becomes red, let go of the fishing rod for just a second or two. As soon as the line is white again, continue pressing down to reel the fish in.
How to Get and Use Bait in Heartopia
Make Fishing Easier With Bait
Heartopia players will unlock bait by talking with Vanya again after completing the Cat on the Roof quest. He will offer you the recipe used to craft the bait initially and provide you with 10 apples to use for making bait if you indicate that you will craft it. After doing so, you will be able to get bait by either crafting it yourself or by purchasing it from Vanya for 200 gold.
Using bait is very simple. All you need to do is stand on the edge of a body of water, select the backpack icon on your screen to open your inventory, tap on the bait, and press chum to drop the bait into the water. This will make a new fish spawn in the water in front of you.

Now that you've filled your inventory with fish, it's time to learn what can be done with them. Like most other resources, one of the easiest things to do with fish is to sell them to Albert Jr. For gold. This is a great way to increase your gold, especially as you level up your Fishing Hobby and catch more expensive fish.
How to Get a Fish Tank & Keep Fish As Pets in Heartopia

If you're not interested in gold, then fish can also be kept in your home as pets, so long as you own fish tanks . To place a fish in a tank, place the fish tank on the floor and stand next to it. Tap the fish icon above the tank and select the fish you'd like to put inside it to place the fish in the tank.
Players will receive a free fish tank at the start of their game. They will also be able to purchase fish tanks from Vanya's Fishing Store. Only small and medium fish tanks will be available originally, but larger tanks will be unlocked after upgrading your Fishing hobby to level 3.
