These icy variants are regular sea creatures that have been affected by the unusually cold waters surrounding the island. Their glowing, frozen appearance makes them instantly recognizable in Heartopia. If you’re trying to add the Frostspore Fish to your fish collection, knowing where to find them is important.

Where to Find Winter Fish in Heartopia

During the Winter Frost Event, all winter fish spawn exclusively in the Old Sea, located off the coast of Onsen Mountain. Fishing anywhere else will not work, as Frostspore Fish do not appear in rivers, lakes, or other sea zones.

Before Frostspore Fish begin spawning, you’ll need to speak with Vanya, the fishing hobby mentor. During the Winter Frost event, she temporarily relocates to the northern beach of Onsen Mountain. Talk to her and complete the short Winter Frost introductory quest to unlock the Frostspore Fish.

You only need Fishing Hobby Level 1 to catch all Frostspore Fish. Even better, they spawn during all weather conditions and at all times of day, meaning there’s no need to wait for specific hours or weather events.

To improve your catch rate, it’s highly recommended to equip the Mermaid Fish Attractor and Perfume.

Frostspore King Crab

The large, icy Frostspore King crab spawns in the Old Sea. You can find it by looking for a large shadow when fishing.

Frostspore Ocean Fish

An infected variant of a common ocean fish, this Frostspore version also appears in the Old Sea with a large shadow.

Frostspore Puffer Fish

The Frostspore Puffer Fish has a compact, frozen appearance and spawns with a medium-sized shadow in the Old Sea.

Frostspore Seahorse

This small and delicate Frostspore Fish uses a small shadow, so it’s easy to miss if you’re not paying attention. It spawns in the Old Sea along with the other winter fish.

Frostspore Whale Shark

The Frostspore Whale Shark is a legendary-tier event fish and the rarest winter fish. Before you can catch it, you need to unlock the fish by completing a special quest from Vanya, by selecting one of her first two dialogue options. This unlocks access to Frostspore Fishing Events, which are free to join daily at 6 PM (server time).

During these events, there’s a chance for a special “Lucky” extra phase to trigger. If you see a message stating there is “hidden movement in the water”. This means the extra phase has begun. Only during this phase can the Frostspore Whale Shark spawn, appearing randomly among other fish shadows.

You might complete multiple events without seeing the Frostspore Whale Shark, since it is extremely rare.
