While attempting a run in Have a Nice Death, there are many hazards for players to watch out for. While basic minions can be dangerous, the most dangerous hazard players will encounter are the Sorrows (or bosses) that are in charge of the departments of Death Incorporate.
Sorrows are tough opponents that will require players to have their wits about them and learn their attack patterns if they are to have any chance of beating them. While it is, to some extent, random which departments players go to, the first Sorrow that Have a Nice Death players will fight is Brad. This guide will show players how to beat Brad.
How to Beat Brad
While Brad doesn't have as many difficult to dodge attacks as later Sorrows, the problem is that when players encounter him they will have fewer options in terms of weapons and Curses. As such, there is little room for error and players will have to be careful to avoid having the run end very early as is common in roguelike games.
The most important thing to know when fighting Brad is his attacks along with being able to tell when he is about to use them. Typically, before charging at Have a Nice Death players, Brad will wind back and then rush forward. If players can spot this, they can easily jump over the attack or dash to dodge it. At random, Brad will also periodically unleash a series of swipe attacks. These can easily be jumped over.
For Brad's big attack, he will fly up into the air and start spinning. A line of boulders will appear and fall to the floor. These can easily be dodged, and often there will be a large gap between two of the boulders that players can use to avoid getting hit. While dodging his attacks, watch for Brad to pull out his phone and take a selfie. He will drop to the ground and occasionally launch boulders up into the air.
The key to defeating Brad is to dodge attacks and then damage Brad when he is between attacks. Don't get greedy, or it will be much more difficult to avoid taking damage. Heal any damage taken if possible.
Weapons and Curses to Use Against Brad
Long ranged weapons and spells are very useful, as it makes it much easier to damage Brad while still being able to avoid taking damage. Since what weapons and spells players will have access to is random this early on in a run, Curses can also help make Brad an easier boss fight as well. Red Curses will typically allow players to do more damage. Blue Curses can reduce damage taken, boost maximum health, and occasionally provide helpful benefits like a periodic Pure Heal.
