What's the Plot of the Movie?
The Miku Who Can't Sing
The plot of Project Sekai the Movie: The Broken World and The Miku Who Can't Sing follows Ichika Hoshino, a high school girl and street musician who finds an unknown version of Hatsune Miku after hearing a song by the virtual idol that she'd never heard before when browsing a Shibuya music store. She learns that this Miku is struggling to reach people through her songs, so Ichika teams up with her to try to get Miku's music to touch the hearts of her audience.
Miku has been referenced various times in media, especially in anime, where the character has been parodied or paid homage to in a large variety of genres, including her recurring guest appearances in Dropkick on My Devil! X (2022), where, like the upcoming Project Sekai the Movie, Miku is voiced by Saki Fujita herself rather than having lines recorded through the Vocaloid software.
The COLOURFUL STAGE! Smartphone Game
The Work Being Adapted Into A Movie
Hatsune Miku: COLORFUL STAGE! Is a "mobile rhythm and visual novel" game that features a cast of 20 characters, including Hatsune Miku and her virtual friends, all of whom have their own distinct musical style and backstory. The game features various hit songs and new music recorded specifically for the game, all of which have five distinct modes of difficulty for players to tap through solo or with friends. Completing challenges and earning XP can enable players to level up and unlock new character cards through the game's gacha system. The game first inspired a mini anime called Petit Seka, which ran for ten episodes and was made available for free on YouTube.
The upcoming Hatsune Miku film is set to hit Japanese theatres on January 17, 2025.
