Harvest Moon: The Winds of Anthos is filled with all sort of little secrets that are not always explicitly outlined in the game's tutorials. In order to get all the different kinds of crops, ore, Harvest Fruits, and other items, players will have to try out a whole slew of different things. Growing crops, for example, isn't as straightforward as some players might assume. To get the most out of every seed, players will need to know the ins and outs of how crop growing works in this farming simulation game.

Farming sims have become a popular genre thanks to Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon. However, there are so many more coming up for fans to explore.

Different Farms

Players of this life sim game probably noticed right off the bat that there are tons of different growing spaces. Each town has another place to move the player's home to, and with each of those, there is a new plot of land. Each potential growing spot has different attributes that change how a seed will grow. The starting farm in Lectenbury has only 30 spots to grow crops, but all the others appear to have either 45 to 60 spots. Each location can have a unique terrain or weather:

  • Herbstburg: The plots available in and around Herbstburg are in perpetual autumn.
  • Lilikala: These growing spaces are always in summer, and they are in the sands of the beach.
  • Volcano: The ground around the volcano is always superheated.
  • Zimagrad: The season in Zimagrad is always winter.
  • There are a handful of spaces that have all four regular seasons in this Harvest Moon game:
    • Starting farm
    • Harvest Goddess Farm
    • Providence Farm
    • Twin Ponds Farm

How Different Seasons and Farms Change Growing Seeds (Mutations)

Harvest-Moon-Winds-Anthos-Planting-Guide-01

Each seed has its best growing season, though all seeds can be grown in any season. Seeds are obtained by interacting with red or blue Harvest Wisps out in the world; they respawn every day and always have the same kind of seeds to give. There are also shops in each village that sell seeds, and players can earn seeds as rewards for completing quests for NPCs.

The Winds of Anthos crop seeds planted in different seasons and different terrains will have a chance at producing a unique version of that crop called a mutation. There will be different mutations for each of the following:

  • Spring
  • Summer
  • Autumn
  • Winter
  • Flatlands
  • Desert
  • Volcano

Planting the same seed in each location or season will give a small chance at a mutation in this Harvest Moon game. This chance can be raised by adding fertilizer and upgrading the player's ability with the crop. Fertilizer can be purchased or made by processing the poop of farm animals, and the crop ability can be raised by simply planting more of that crop. Every time a crop of that type is harvested, it goes towards the player's total harvest count.

  • Level 1: up to 49 harvested crops.
  • Level 2: 50 - 249
  • Level 3: 250 - 499
  • Level 4: 500 or more

For example, if a player has planted and harvested Turnips 500 times, they are much more likely to get higher star ratings on Turnips planted in the future and much more likely to get seasonal or locational mutations. Reaching Level 3 with a seed will also give players the ability to purchase an unlimited number of that particular seed in any Village seed shop.

Giant Crops

Giant versions of crops sell for ten times their normal value. There are a total of 19 crops that can have a giant mutation:

  • Asparagus
  • Broccoli
  • Cabbage
  • Carrot
  • Celery
  • Corn
  • Eggplant
  • Green Bell Pepper
  • Lettuce
  • Onion
  • Pineapple
  • Potato
  • Pumpkin
  • Spinach
  • Strawberry
  • Tomato
  • Turnip
  • Watermelon
  • Wheat

Just like regular and mutated plants, giant plants take several in-game days to grow and bloom. Each seed has a different growing times, which are listed in the seed information in the menu.

Believing that the separated villages and people would one day be reconnected, the Harvest Goddess sent out a bottle with a letter and a magic key, then fell into a deep sleep...
