Paramount's adaptation of Halo has made its way to Netflix in the United States and quickly become one of the most popular series on the service. Halo originally ran for two seasons between 2022 and 2024, and although it received a mixed response from fans and critics, it appears as though the show is finding a new lease of life on Netflix after rolling out to more regions earlier in the week.

The Halo TV series first premiered on Paramount+ in 2022, but a mixed audience reception, due to the adaptation's lack of faithfulness to the source material, and a reportedly very high budget, resulted in its cancellation after just two seasons. Those who were fans of the show were hopeful that a third season of Halo could still come to fruition if another streaming service picked up the rights to the show, but that prospect was looking pretty bleak after a whole year of no news. Now, however, Halo has hit Netflix in the United States, and it appears to be doing extremely well.

If recent rumors are to be believed, Friday, October 24 could be the day that hell truly freezes over for PlayStation and Xbox.

Halo Becomes One of Netflix's Most Watched Shows

In March, select regions, including the United Kingdom, South America, Australia, New Zealand, and others, were able to watch the first season of Halo on Netflix. Now, both seasons of the show can be watched on the platform, as the show has also rolled out to those in the United States as of October 1. In just a matter of days, Halo has quickly become one of the most popular shows on the service, peaking at the fourth most-watched series in the United States. While Paramount+ never confirmed the viewing numbers that Halo reached during its original run, it looks like the show is being given a new lease of life after debuting on Netflix.

Ever since the Super Mario Bros movie hit the big screen in 1986, video game adaptations have had a rocky journey. While Halo was lumped in with the pile of many, many lackluster adaptations, recent years have seen studios take the source material much more seriously, resulting in critically acclaimed shows and movies, such as HBO's The Last of Us, Netflix's Arcane, Amazon's Fallout, and many more. But not everyone was so harsh on Halo, as it was often praised by those who were not familiar with the games from which it was adapted. There are even some who believe it's time for a Halo movie adaptation now that the show has been canceled.

Paramount may have washed its hands of any more Halo seasons, but the studio did recently reveal that it would be partnering with Activision to develop a much-requested Call of Duty movie. It's still early days, so there's no word on a potential director, cast, or release date, but Paramount did say the movie will be "designed to thrill its massive global fan base by delivering on the hallmarks of what fans love about the iconic series, while boldly expanding the franchise to entirely new audiences."
