Summary

  • Halo TV series may not get a third season on Paramount+, but hope remains as it gets shopped around by key industry players.
  • Despite low viewership on Paramount+, moving the Halo TV series to a new network could help it thrive with a fresh audience base.

Paramount+ has not ordered a third season of its Halo TV series, but there may still be hope for the next season regardless. Most of the time, new installments in the Halo franchise are hits regardless of their medium, including the books, which fans have shown lots of love for in the past. Not every iteration of Halo is a winner, though. This has been the case with the controversial releases of Halo 4 and 5, and concern appears to be growing that Halo is overextending itself.

It appears the Halo franchise has been in some turmoil lately. One of the biggest parts of the series' legacy is now gone after the closure of Axis Studios. Axis was a Scottish animation studio that worked on plenty of cinematics across the Halo series, including Halo Infinite's opening cinematic. It also produced cutscenes within plenty of Destiny 2's expansions. There appear to be more losses around the corner for Halo.

Paramount+ is closing the curtain on Halo, but it does appear that there is a chance for survival here. TVLine reports that Amblin Television, Xbox, and 343 Industries have banded together to shop the TV series around. Although the Halo TV series has struggled to take off, its life may not be over yet. When it comes to TV shows getting shopped around, others have survived this kind of purgatory before. Most notably, Brooklyn Nine-Nine was canceled by FOX and revived within the span of 30 hours. Similarly, FOX once canceled Family Guy.

Halo Series Being Shopped Around

That isn't to say that Halo needs to pick up the same levels of success as either of the aforementioned TV shows, since it already has a more niche audience as a video game adaptation. There's a chance that part of Halo's low viewership was related to it being on Paramount+ in the first place. Reports show that Paramount+ still has fewer subscribers than Netflix and Disney+, further stating that Paramount+ just isn't profitable. Halo changing networks will not only provide a chance for the show to conclude, it could bring in a new viewer base.

Furthermore, there's more hope for the Halo franchise in general, with 343 Industries addressing rumors concerning its involvement in the series' future releases. Some gamers have been speculating that the developer would be removed from the Halo games, which might be because the hype for Halo Infinite has died down despite its live-service status. Franchises like Halo could just need another release to pull attention back to them, though. This has consistently been the case for the games, and with some luck, may eventually be the case for the show as well.
