Halo 2 Player Discovers New Secret After Over 20 Years

A Halo 2 player online discovers a new secret in Bungie's iconic FPS, over 20 years after its initial release.

In a post on Halo Waypoint, Halo Studios revealed Seek and Deploy Extraction, a single-life round-based 4v4 game mode in which two teams must take turns attacking and defending two Extraction Sites. The trailer for the game mode confirmed that this is "Halo's version of the popular tactical shooter mode," with obvious comparisons made to titles like Counter-Strike 2, Valorant, and Call of Duty's Search and Destroy mode, albeit with a Halo twist. This Halo Infinite game mode will be best-of-11, ensuring that matches are swift compared to other games in the genre.

Halo Infinite is Getting a Tactical Shooter Game Mode

Importantly, Seek and Deploy Extraction will feature an economy system. Players will have Bandit Evo starts, but will earn credits for kills and Extractions. These can then be used to purchase weapons, grenades, and equipment to use for the around ahead. Items ramp up in value, ensuring the power weapons don't come out right at the start of matches. Players shouldn't expect to see Seek and Deploy Extraction any time soon, and has simply been described as coming "later this year." Still, it's good to know Halo fans still have things to look forward to in 2025.

It will be interesting to see if the tactical shooter gameplay catches on in the Halo Infinite community. The tactical shooter genre is one with many established players. Counter-Strike 2 continues to serve millions of players daily, and Valorant is enormous, too. Call of Duty's Search and Destroy game mode is a staple and remains a great introduction to the genre for casual players. Then, there's Fortnite's Ballistic game mode, which didn't receive the plaudits Epic perhaps hoped. Those games scratch the surface of the depth of the genre, so Halo Infinite has a tough job on its hands if it's going to capture this particular audience.
