Halo Studios has announced that a new update titled Operation Frontlines is set to be released for Halo Infinite on February 4. Details about the upcoming Halo Infinite update were light, with more to arrive before it drops next week.
It's worth remembering just how far Halo Infinite has come since its rough launch back in late 2021. Upon release, the game was missing staple Halo features like Forge mode or campaign co-op, giving the game a reputation it has spent years trying to shake. While it did eventually get those core features, a lot of the damage was done. At this point, though, Halo Infinite is in a really good state, and continues to receive updates from Halo Studios (formerly 343 Industries) on a regular basis. Late last year, the developer even added a third-person mode to Halo Infinite, with the franchise displaying that it hasn't quite played all its cards yet.
Call of Duty Leak Teases Scrapped Halo Collaboration
A leaker claims that a collaboration between Halo and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 almost became a reality.
In a short video posted to X, Halo Studios confirmed that Operation Frontlines is set to launch for Halo Infinite's multiplayer mode on February 4. In terms of concrete details, the trailer gives absolutely nothing away, showing a radar on a large map. Some responses to the post believed that this could hint at more large-scale maps coming to Halo Infinite, or even the Battle Royale mode that was rumored to be in development for the longest time. Most seem to believe this has been canceled, though, so this seems unlikely at this point.
Operation Frontlines Comes to Halo Infinite on February 4
Gamers wanting to know more won't actually have to wait until February 4. On January 31, Halo Studio will host a Community Livestream, giving players a glimpse into the upcoming update. It doesn't do this for every Operation, so it could mean that it's a big one. When Operation Frontlines does launch, it will also end Halo Infinite's Operation Brute Force, which went live on January 7. Whether there will be more or less content this time around remains to be seen.
The Halo franchise could be set for a very interesting few years. The rebrand of 343 Industries to Halo Studios seemed to mark a symbolic transition for the franchise, and rumors persist that a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved will be the first project to mark this new era. There are also ongoing rumors that Halo could come to the Switch 2 and PlayStation 5, which would be the most significant change in direction for the franchise in a very long time. Only time will tell what the truth is beyond all the noise.
