Halo Infinite is easily one of the most highly-anticipated first-party games coming out this year, and still one of the most mysterious. Microsoft and current series developer 343 Industries have been holding this one close to the chest for the last few years now, leaving fans with little to go off of to this day. A recent leak left many thinking they might finally get some info, but no, it’s been confirmed that that’s fake.

Given how often leaks like this can turn out to be fake, many fans were suspicious right away, especially since some of these claims just seem to recycle previous rumors about Halo Infinite. Turns out fans were right to think it was all too good to be true, because the leak’s original poster has since deleted their post and admitted that the whole thing was made up.

In the wake of that revelation, 343 reminded everyone to always regard unverified rumors with a grain of salt, with community manager John Junyszek writing on Twitter, "Since today's 'leak' admitted to being fake, please remember to only trust messaging from official channels. We're close, just hang in there.”

Like he pointed out, it won’t be much longer before Microsoft and 343 finally open up on what Halo Infinite will actually have to offer, as both have confirmed and re-confirmed that the game will be properly revealed during the Xbox 20/20 first-party showcase taking place in July, offering fans the first real look at its gameplay in action.

Halo Infinite currently remains on track to launch alongside the Xbox Series X this holiday season, despite the setbacks that have been brought on by the coronavirus situation. Microsoft has also said there will be multiple pre-launch multiplayer betas for the game, but since nothing’s been said about them since December, it’s possible that those plans may have changed. It’s likely the Xbox 20/20 event should offer an update, though.

Halo Infinite is scheduled to launch this holiday season for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
