Summary

  • Halo Infinite's Forge mode showcases incredible player creativity, with an especially impressive remake of Sandtrap from Halo 3.
  • The Sandtrap remake can even be played in Halo Infinite's Firefight, a first for the map.
  • The wipe-open spaces found on Sandtrap are perfect for Halo Infinite's fast-paced sandbox.

A talented gamer online has shared footage of their Halo Infinite Forge recreation of the classic Halo 3 map, Sandtrap. Ever since Sandtrap debuted back in 2007, it has become known as one of the best maps in the series, and now, it’s fully playable in the Halo Infinite sandbox.

The Forge mode in Halo Infinite is the most powerful version of the feature to date. Like Sandtrap, Forge debuted in Halo 3 back in 2007, although the version then pales in comparison to the tools available nowadays. Players are even using Halo Infinite’s Forge to recreate entire campaign missions from previous games, which showcases the power of what is possible now. The addition of AI to Forge mode was a true game-changer, opening up the possibilities for creators like never before.

Redditor okom_ shared the footage of Halo Infinite’s version of Sandtrap, this time renamed Sandstone. This recreation of one of the best Halo maps ever is near-perfect, with everything from the terrain to the outer set dressing of the map made with insane accuracy. Its wide-open spaces are perfect for Halo Infinite’s faster gameplay, making Sandtrap every bit as great in 2024 as it was in 2007. In the thread itself, okom_ also linked to where players are able to download the new version of Sandtrap to try it out for themselves.

Sandtrap Remake in Halo Infinite

That’s not all, though. The creator has even created a version of Sandtrap for Firefight in Halo Infinite, meaning players can fight off hordes of AI enemies on what has traditionally always been a PvP map. Based on the gameplay, Firefight seems to work perfectly on Sandtrap, with plenty of areas for players to hunker down and set up a base to fight from. There’s even the Elephant vehicle, although unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to move in the Halo Infinite version.

The difference between Halo Infinite at launch and now is night and day. 343 Industries has made great strides with the game, and arguably made it one of the most polished Halo titles to date through consistent patches and plenty of new content over the years. The recent update 31 for Halo Infinite brought some enormous improvements, with the introduction of Easy Anti-Cheat and network changes that most feel have made playing the game a much smoother experience. With development on Halo: The Master Chief Collection now seemingly wrapping up, let’s hope some of those extra resources go toward perfecting Infinite.
