A talented gamer has used the Forge Mode in Halo Infinite to recreate the opening cutscene from the first game in the series, Combat Evolved. For many long-time fans of the franchise, this Halo Infinite creation is sure to cause a ton of nostalgic memories.
The improvements made to Forge Mode in Halo Infinite make it by far the most powerful version of the tool to date. Players are able to script their own events now, and they also have the ability to add AI to levels. It’s a far cry from the basic map creator players received in Halo 3 back in 2007. One player even recreated an entire Halo: Combat Evolved campaign level in Infinite’s Forge, showcasing the power of what these tools are now capable of in the hands of the right player.
Every Game in the Halo Series, Ranked by How Long They Take to Beat
A franchise that has now spanned more than two decades, Halo has seen plenty of first-person-shooter story campaigns over the years.
Redditor xXBarthXx shared the impressive recreation of Halo: Combat Evolved’s opening cutscene with the Halo community on Reddit, which shared its appreciation for the video. The footage shows off a huge Pillar of Autumn creation, before heading to the interior to show the cutscene, close to how it was in 2001. A generic marine model is used in place of Captain Keyes, and hilariously, a small pink doll is used to represent Cortana. While the Forge mode in Halo Infinite is impressive, it does have some limitations, but it’s still impressive to see that the cutscene can be made in a way that remains recognizable to those who played the original game.
Halo: Combat Evolved Intro Recreated in Infinite's Forge
According to the comments in the thread, the plan for this goes much further than the initial cutscene. In response to one question, xXBarthXx confirmed that the plan is to eventually recreate all of Halo: Combat Evolved’s campaign within Halo Infinite’s Forge. While it’s certainly ambitious, it’s not impossible given the tools at their disposal. Bringing one of the best Halo games to life all over again is a project not to be missed when it's eventually released.
As a franchise, Halo is in an interesting place at the moment. It has been a long time since its heyday, but it remains a gaming staple thanks to a dedicated fan base that has stuck around for decades at this point. Halo Infinite continues to receive frequent updates from 343 Industries, although the studio has recently stopped active development on Halo: The Master Chief Collection. It isn’t clear how much longer the developer is planning to support Halo Infinite, although it would be surprising to hear about the next iteration of the franchise any time soon.
