Summary

  • Halo Infinite's Forge mode praised by fans as a fantastic experience.
  • Rumored PvE mode "Project Tatanka" could have supported 40 players.
  • Despite canceling Battle Royale mode, fans create their own versions using Forge.

More evidence of Halo Infinite's forge mode has popped up, describing it as a "fantastic experience." As it is the newest series title so far, the team behind Halo Infinite has had plenty of opportunities to take a look at many industry trends and decide whether they're worth incorporating into the modern Halo experience. For a while, this meant the possibility of a Battle Royale mode for the game.

Rumors about Halo Infinite's "Project Tatanka" mode describe it as a PvE mode capable of supporting up to 40 players, offering free-for-all matches, triples, and quads. Tatanka had reportedly been in development since 2020 up to mid-2022 before eventually getting scrapped. Players were disappointed to see the potential for the game mode seemingly just squandered. Some fans weren't bothered that Tatanka was canceled since they prefer Halo sticking to its more traditional aspects. Now, more evidence of Tatanka's existence has shown up.

Gamers noticed that Mike Clopper, the Design Director of Halo Infinite's campaign and multiplayer modes, had a blurb on his LinkedIn profile discussing the previously all-but-confirmed Battle Royale mode for the video game. Talking about his experience, Clopper stated that he led a team that worked on the canceled mode for Halo, believing it would have been a "game changer" and calling it a "fantastic experience" despite being canceled.

Halo Infinite's Battle Royale Was Considered a "Game Changer"

Many have taken this as an official confirmation of the rumors about a Battle Royale mode for Halo Infinite. Some gamers weren't particularly shocked that there was more evidence of this mode's existence, but they were more interested to see former members of the game's team discussing it in any capacity. Since fans and outlets have discovered this information, Clopper appears to have edited the section of his LinkedIn profile, now briefly saying he led a team that worked on the game's multiplayer portion, and nothing more. It was exciting for many to see Halo consider trying new things, and although that portion of the game has been canceled, Halo Studios is still working on new things, and so are its fans.

Although Halo Studios seems to have completely abandoned work on a Battle Royale mode, that does not have to be where it stops for fans of the series. Now that gamers have access to the title's Forge mode, they've gone ahead and created a Battle Royale mode for Halo on their own. Anybody who was looking forward to seeing the series put a spin on the genre can do so while also enjoying the most up-to-date version of Forge available.
