So far, Halo: Master Chief Collection  has been an interesting journey. The game launched in a pretty rough state, with matchmaking issues and bugs plaguing the early experience. However, with regular updates and dedication from 343 Industries, Halo: Master Chief Collection  has become an experience worthy of Xbox's most iconic franchise. And now, Halo: MCC  is allowing players to relive the glory days of the playground.

Right now, MCC  players are able to play a special Freeze Tag mode as part of the Winter Contingency event. The game mode allows players to freeze each other with modified versions of the Covenant Focus Rifle, steadily slowing players down until they're stuck in place. Frozen players will steadily thaw, but teammates huddling around them will make the process go by considerably faster. The team with the fewest frozen members at the end of the round wins. Alternatively, players can capture a flag to score a victory for their team.

The event is currently live, and will run through February 18th. During that time, players that complete multiplayer matches will be able to earn special nameplates. Completing five matches will net players the Focus Rifle nameplate, while completing 15 will unlock the Winter's Contingency nameplate. It's a small, though interesting reward for players. Halo: MCC's  progression system is a little bit odd these days, so being able to unlock rewards through a more conventional system will likely be appreciated by the player base.

Master Chief Collection  is a pretty complete package for fans, featuring some of the best Halo multiplayer   maps of all time. For many fans, being able to relive the glory days of Halo has been a dream come true, especially considering that it comes in an all-in-one bundle. While it is missing Halo 5,  for the most part, fans can experience the majority of what the franchise has to offer in terms of main entries.

With 343 running special events like these, it should keep a pretty consistent player base while fans wait for the release of Halo Infinite The next-gen Halo  title is still something of a mystery, though it looks like a bit of a return to form for the franchise based on what's been seen so far. Only time will tell.

Halo: Master Chief Collection  is available now on Xbox One and PC.
