Progression mode in Half Sword sees players start off as beggars with barely any clothes on their backs and a simple weapon, usually a farming tool. The aim is to fight in duels and other contests, to earn money and level up. This will then allow players to buy or pay for the forging of new armor and weapons, which they will need to fight against better-equipped and trained opponents in this medieval combat game.
Half Sword: Mechanics The Game Doesn't Teach You
There isn't much of a tutorial in Half Sword, so check out the following mechanics that the game doesn't teach you.
Money is also spent to enter contests as a bet, and small sums are also spent to heal and then rest at the inn each night. Learning how to make money in Half Sword fast is, therefore, a top priority.
How To Make Money Fast In Half Sword
The main way to earn money in Half Sword is simply by winning contests, but part of the formula for success is picking the most optimal contests to compete in. There are also a few other ways to earn coin, as will be seen.
Perform Errands
By clicking on the innkeeper to rest, players will occasionally see an option to perform an errand for 5 coins. They will either have to chop a barrel up or escort a drunk patron home. Earning extra pfennings for now risk is a no-brainer.
If players ever run out of money and can't afford to stay at the inn overnight, they will always be offered the chance to perform an errand.
Look For Contests With Fewer Rounds
Other than looking for events with big prize pools, also take a look at how many rounds they have, as all these must be won. Not only are events with fewer events faster, but there's less chance of dying.
However, also beware of single-round events, as these are often extremely hard against a larger opponent with a good weapon. Retribution, for example, is hard. If you're good at the game, though, these are great.
Scroll Down In The List Of Events
Sometimes there are more than three events available, and it's easy not to realize that you can scroll down. Perhaps the fourth option will be the best.
10 New Upcoming Medieval Games
Fans of medieval video games have a lot to look forward to in the near future, but these are the most promising titles on the horizon.
KnockDown Brawls Are The Fastest
At the top of the card for an event, it will say what kind of fight is on offer in red ink. This might be Circle, Submission, or KnockDown, for example. If there are KnockDown brawls with just fists, then these can be extremely quick and thus cost-efficient.
The round is over as soon as your opponent is knocked to the ground, and by running at them and landing a few good hits, it might take just seconds. As they are brawls without weapons, there's also pretty much no chance of death, and a game over.
Avoid Taking Damage
As it costs money to heal after taking lots of damage, try to play it safe and perhaps avoid fights with weapons when possible. This is only a big deal early on when players don't have as much money.
Avoid The Slums When Possible
The Slums map is notoriously slippery, and one fall can cost you a lot when you're otherwise better than your opponents. For this reason, try to avoid the map when possible. If you do fight on it, try to stick to the wooden platforms on the ground, rather than standing on the mud.
Loot Armor & Weapons To Sell
After winning a fight, but before holding G to advance, players can pick up weapons or even armor by pressing Q or E when bending down. You can then sell these items to the trader in the inn.
Make sure the items you wish to sell aren't equipped. You won't get as much money as they can be bought for, but free pfennings are free pfennings.
The Best Games For Fans Of Medieval History
Whether it’s Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, For Honor, Crusader Kings 3, or more, fans have a lot of choices when it comes to medieval fantasy games.
Get Promoted For Higher Stake Events
After winning enough fights, players will be able to compete in the Beggar Tournament, which consists of 7 rounds that get increasingly more difficult. Not only is there a huge payout, but players will then advance to the next rank.
Here, they can forge more weapon types, but they will also have access to a new tier of fights, which usually have better prize pots. It's therefore recommended to get promoted ASAP. There are many ranks beyond Beggar and Peasant, so this loop continues.
Getting promoted also means that if you get a game over, you can restart from your new rank.
Avoid Killing, Aim To Make Them Submit
If players kill their opponents, then when they themselves die and enter the Abyss to fight for their life, there will be more zombies. There is one zombie for every soul slain.
Therefore, try to avoid killing, and instead make foes submit by holding your weapon to their throat when they lie on the ground.
