In Progression mode, weapons can be bought from the trader, picked up from opponents using Q or E, or forged at the inn. As players progress through the ranks, better weapons will appear in the store, and more weapon types will be able to be forged. Therefore, it's best to consider the best early game weapons as well as the overall best weapons in Half Sword.

Best Early Game Weapons In Half Sword

When starting out as a Beggar or Peasant, the following early-game weapons in Half Sword should help you against your fellow unarmored opponents.

Two-Handed Mace

If players can either find a mace long enough to be wielded in two hands or forge one, then it is easily one of the most reliable early-game weapons in Half Sword. It does more than enough damage against unarmored foes without killing them, instead forcing them to surrender, which is always a bonus.

Flail

With an excellent range, the flail can be devastating in the early game at clipping foes around the head. However, due to the unique physics of this weapon, it's not easy to use.

Axe & Shield

The one-handed axe is a great early-game weapon, but to compensate for its limited reach, players will want to pair it with a rudimentary early shield, such as a pan lid or a barrel lid, until they can get something more substantial.

Pitchfork

Despite not dealing much damage, the pitchfork is a great option early due to its immense reach and size. Use it to knock unarmored opponents to the ground, and then force them to surrender. It's more powerful when held with a grip in the middle, which uses the same command as half-swording, RMB.

Best Overall Weapons In Half Sword

The following are arguably the best weapons in Half Sword, although ultimately it's down to how they are used. Players may perform better with an option or even just find other weapons more fun.

Most weapons have variants. For example, there is no one set longsword, as they come in different lengths with the center of mass in varying places and other discrepancies.

Warstaff

The warstaff used to be called the plancon in the demo, and is essentially a spear with lots of spikes sticking out horizontally from the shaft. It also happens to be one of the best Half Sword weapons with fantastic reach and a large area of impact.

Getting hit with any part of this heavy weapon can be deadly, and it can also be used like a traditional spear with the thrusting mechanic.

Longsword

Not only is the longsword one of the best weapons, but it's arguably one of the most fun too. It boasts great reach and is dangerous at every point with an edge on both sides and a sharp point. It can be used to block and parry most attacks and close the gap.

It can also be used with a half sword grip, with players pummelling their foes with the hilt, or having better control to stab up close. While half-swording, you can also use the edge as a razor on your opponent's neck. A negative is that it's not as good against fully armored opponents. The greatsword is a similar option to the longsword with most of the same strengths and weaknesses, but a bit more range.

Great Axe

If players want to gore with that setting turned up to the max, then the great axe is the best option for it, dealing devastating damage to all limbs and body parts. It doesn't have the best reach, but it offers more control.
