Typhon is the final boss in Hades 2, and unsurprisingly, is an incredibly tricky opponent to take on as a result. There are four phases to this boss battle, each of which brings some truly punishing attacks that can deal huge damage if you're not careful. While there are certain boons and builds that help some players, the best way to approach the fight is to use the weapons and builds that you've found most effective to this point. In this guide, I'll run through each of Typhon's phases and how to prepare so you can beat him in Hades 2.

How to Beat Typhon in Hades 2

Before we dive into each of the phases, the one thing I'd highly recommend is to max out your Death Defiances. This can be done by maxing out your Eternity arcana card, equipping the Luckier Tooth Keepsake, and making use of Toula's passive. By doing this, you can massively increase the amount of 'health' you have, which helps to counter the fact that Typhon hits so hard. If you do this, and focus on defense rather than attack, Typhon becomes a much easier boss to take on.

Phase 1

hades 2 typhon tongue laser

Typhon's first phase largely focuses on a few different moves. Arguably most annoying is his head slam, which he'll do whenever you get too close to him. It can be tricky to avoid, so when he roars and his horns and chin begin glowing red, immediately dodge back. Leave it too long, and you'll get caught up in it, which deals high damage.

From time to time, Typhon will blow little tornadoes of wind out of his move. The best way to avoid these is to simply run away and dodge them. The movement of the little tornadoes is relatively random, but they will eventually start tracking your movements, albeit slowly. As such, just wait until they disappear and then go back on the offensive.

Typhon will also swing his head to one side, stick his tongue out, and fire a laser out the end of it as he swings his head to the other side of the arena. This essentially makes the laser run across the surface of the arena, so you need to carefully time your dodge so you dodge through the laser as it approaches you. Get the timing wrong, and you'll take damage.

You might also find that Typhon fires a large eyeball, which explodes into three smaller eyeballs that also explode. When you see his large eye on his forehead begin to glow, wait for the initial projectile and then dodge out of the way to one of the edges of the arena. If Typhon begins to jerk his head a little bit and you see circular shadows appearing on the floor, start to dodge up towards Typhon. Doing this should allow you to avoid the projectiles raining down from above and avoid taking any damage.

Towards the end of phase 1, Typhon will shift back into the shadow behind him and spit some eggs out onto the arena. Quickly take care of these. Failing to do so before they hatch will cause powerful enemies to spawn, which can become a serious headache once Typhon returns to the battle.

Phase 2

typhon stunned in hades 2

At the beginning of phase 2, Zeus will appear and deliver some serious damage to Typhon. This also has the added bonus of stunning him for about 3-5 seconds, allowing you to deal as much damage as you possibly can before he wakes up.

If you manage to deal enough damage while Typhon is stunned with his tongue out, you can move straight into the phase 3 eggs. If you don't, you'll need to go through phase 1's attacks again with the eggs thrown in again for good measure.

When Typhon spits out eggs again, focus on taking these out as quickly as possible. This time, you'll also need to avoid some shockwaves that he creates with his tail and hands, so make sure you're dodging through these as they approach you.

Phase 3

hades 2 typhon spike tentacles

In this final phase of the fight, Typhon will use most of the same moves he already has, but they're new and improved. I've listed the changes to expect from each attack below:

  • Typhon's tongue laser will now swing across the arena twice, rather than once. The easy way to avoid this is to just dodge through the laser on each swing.
  • His ground pound move with his head is more powerful and a lot faster, making it more difficult to dodge.
  • His eye attack will explode into three smaller eyeballs, which themselves explode into three smaller exploding eyeballs. This can cover a huge amount of the arena. When you see his eye glow, dash to the bottom of the arena, and then dodge back up towards Typhon. This causes the explosives to land towards the bottom of the arena and gives you a small area at the top to stay out of harm's way.
  • When Typhon rains down small eyeballs from above, sprint down to the bottom of the arena, as they'll typically land towards the top.

On top of these, Typhon will now summon three swinging tentacles that will work their way from the bottom to the top of the arena. When you see them initially spawn at the bottom of the arena, prepare to dodge your way to the bottom of the arena. Wait for their second spawn towards the middle, dodge through them, and then return up to Typhon to carry on dealing damage.
