- The continuation of the Hades franchise in Hades 2 brings back the thrilling Roguelike gameplay and exploration of the underworld with the support of various gods and goddesses.
Roguelike hit Hades included references to many classic Greek myths, ranging from the tragic love of Orpheus and Eurydice to Theseus' triumph against the Minotaur. Hades 2 promises to include many more, with the Goddess of Witchcraft Hecate mentoring Zagreus' sister Melinoe in her battle against the Titan of Time. It is likely that this highly-anticipated sequel will feature many more Greek myths that were neglected in the original, and there's a handful that Hades 2 should absolutely include.
Tantalus
Hades included one of Greek mythology's most famous punished sinners in Sisyphus, who is forced to repeatedly push a boulder (nicknamed "Bouldy") up a hill for all eternity. Hades 2 could show off another iconic punishment in the form of Tantalus, a wicked king who reaches for fruit and water that constantly slips from his grasp.
Potential Roles For Tantalus In Hades 2
- A shopkeeper who sells the food/water he can't have as healing items
- A Chthonic Companion who aids Melinoe should she help his plight
Icarus
The legendary inventory Daedalus is mentioned in Hades, but does not appear in person. He is the one who built the House of Hades and is responsible for the Underworld's constantly shifting layout. Daedalus' arguably more famous son, Icarus, could definitely make an appearance in Hades 2. Icarus is best-known for his tragic death, caused when he flew too close to the sun on artificial wings crafted by his inventor father.
Potential Roles For Icarus In Hades 2
- A quest-giver who tasks Melinoe with reuniting him and his father
- Granting Melinoe his wings as a way of moving around faster
Atalanta
Several of mythology's biggest heroes are present in the underworld in Hades, including cocky Theseus and surprisingly romantic Achilles. One notably missing name is Atalanta, a heroine whose exploits include hunting the Calydonian Boar and defeating dozens of challengers in a footrace. She's also a devotee of the goddess Artemis, one of the gods who aided Zagreus in the original game.
Potential Roles For Atalanta In Hades 2
- A tricky boss battle in which she uses her legendary speed and archery skills to challenge Melinoe
- A fetch quest in which Melinoe needs to gather the Golden Apples used by Melanion to defeat her in a race
Hestia
Hestia, goddess of the hearth and home, seems destined to be one of the most forgotten Olympians in media. Her only "appearance" in Hades was as the goddess associated with the Adamant Rail, one of the game's Infernal Arms. With other infamously absent god Apollo confirmed to be making his debut in Hades 2, it's time for Hestia to get her moment in the sun as well.
Potential Roles For Hestia In Hades 2
- A goddess who grants boons to Melinoe as many other Olympians did in Hades
- A balancing force who reins in her brother Hades when he's a less-than-present father to Melinoe and Zagreus
Medea
With Melinoe taking over from Zagreus as the playable character and Hecate acting as her mentor, it's clear that Hades 2 is going to be a chance for the ladies of Greek mythology to shine. In this case, it's the perfect time to look to Medea, the legendary "deadly queen" whose romance with Jason ended in tragedy when she took matters into her own hands by slaying her romantic rival and her children.
Potential Roles For Medea In Hades 2
- An alternate mentor to Melinoe when Hecate isn't available, as Medea is often portrayed as a priestess who serves Hecate
- A boss battle where Melinoe must put her magic skills to the test against arguably the most legendary sorceress of them all
