There are a lot of Incantation materials in Hades 2, and many of the most powerful and potent reagents cannot be acquired until very late in the game. One such rare reagent is Soot, a mysterious material somehow tied to the House of Hades that could not be acquired until the game's 1.0 release.
Hades 2 Price, Preorders, & Other 1.0 FAQs
Learn everything you need to know about Hades 2 before the game finally launches with this list of answers to common questions about the game.
As a required material for the End to Dumbest Slumber Incantation in Hades 2, Soot is used as part of the lengthy process to wake up Hypnos. Follow this guide to learn what to do with Soot and where you can get Soot in Hades 2 to complete this final Incantation for Hypnos.
What is Soot Used For in Hades 2?
In Hades 2, Soot is one of the required materials for the End To Dumbest Slumber Incantation. After attempting to talk to the slumbering Hypnos a few times in the Crossroads, Melinoë will get the idea to use Dream Vapors to rouse the God of Sleep via the End To Deepest Slumber Incantation.
Melinoë will not be able to wake him up with the first Dream Vapors. Find the recipe for a stronger version of Dream Vapors by talking to Medea in the City of Ephyrea on the surface, which grants the End to Dearest Slumber Incantation.
Complete this Incantation, gift the upgraded Dream Vapors to Hypnos once again, and you will delve deeper still into the God of Sleep's subconscious. Still unable to wake Hypnos up, Melinoë must then find Medea once more to get the third, most potent version of the Dream Vapors item.
You will need to find 1x Shaderot, 2x Poppy, and 1x Soot to complete the End to Dumbest Slumber Incantation and finally rouse Hypnos from his never-ending sleep.
Where to Find Soot in Hades 2
Death leads the newly deceased to the House, where eternal Sleep welcomes them.
Found through some connection to the House of Hades, in theory...
To get Soot, Hades 2 players must first complete the game – or, at least, see the credits. After entering the post-game epilogue, take the Underworld route until you run into Hades again in his usual spot in Tartarus.
Talk to Hades and Persephone here to learn how the renovations on the House of Hades are going. Once your conversation wraps up and you choose one of Hades' Boons, Melinoë will automatically get Soot when the dialogue box closes.
Gift Hades some Nectar while you're in his chamber within Tartarus to get his Keepsake, one of three Keepsakes that can only be earned after beating Hades 2. The other two can be acquired by completing the Infernal Contract fight twice, and by gifting Nectar to an unlikely ally after beating the game.
Indeed, to get Soot, Hades 2 players simply need to talk to Hades once after completing the game. Even in the post-game, Hades can be found in the same chamber where he was imprisoned by Chronos.
After reaching Tartarus, keep an eye out for a symbol depicting two open hands and a speech bubble to reach Hades and get Soot in Hades 2.
Bring this back to the Crossroads and, in combination with 1x Shaderot and 2x Poppy, complete the End to Dumbest Slumber Incantation. This Incantation completes Hypnos' quest in Hades 2 as Melinoë finally wakes up the God of Sleep, a feat that also unlocks the "Soundest of Sleepers" achievement.
