Guilty Gear Strive is getting a Nintendo Switch port, as Arc System Works revealed the news at PAX West 2024 with a new trailer for fans to see. Dubbed Guilty Gear Strive: Nintendo Switch Edition, this port will arrive on January 23, 2025, and will include 28 playable characters from the base game and first three seasons, and rollback netcode.
Originally released in 2021 on Steam and PlayStation consoles, Guilty Gear Strive is the latest entry in Arc System Works' Guilty Gear franchise. Praised by fighting game fans for its soundtrack and its use of rollback netcode for online play, Guilty Gear Strive has released multiple batches of characters, stages, and content for players to enjoy. Although Arc System Works has three seasons of DLC under its belt, more content is in the works for Guilty Gear fans to consume. Between the arrival of Lucy from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners as a guest fighter, and a new 3v3 Online Tag Battle Mode in the works, Season 4 of Guilty Gear Strive may be its most ambitious yet.
One of 2023's Best Games Is Finally Coming to the Nintendo Switch
A Switch port of one of the highest-rated titles of 2023 has been officially announced during Nintendo's latest game showcase.
Although Guilty Gear Strive will leave Xbox Game Pass at the end of August, the game will soon have another platform to call home. Arc System Works stated at PAX West 2024 that Guilty Gear Strive: Nintendo Switch Edition will arrive on January 23, with physical and digital versions planned. A trailer was also released which confirmed that all 28 playable characters from the base roster and the first three DLC seasons would be available on release. At the time of writing, it was unclear if Season 4's characters and features would be released on the Switch simultaneously with other versions of Guilty Gear Strive. However, a digital figure feature is planned via a free update, which players can use to create dioramas with their favorite Guilty Gear characters.
Arc System Works Reveals Guilty Gear Strive: Nintendo Switch Edition
Guilty Gear Strive producer Ken Miyauchi clarified on social media that the upcoming Switch port would not have crossplay functionality with PC or other consoles, but would still use rollback netcode for online play. Given that Guilty Gear Strive was made in Unreal Engine 4, which is compatible with the Switch, the port may be one of the last ones released before the Switch's successor lands on the market.
Between its thorough tutorials, input customization options, and growing character roster, Guilty Gear Strive remains one of the best beginner-friendly fighting games. Only time will tell how successful the upcoming Switch port will be.
