Guild Wars is pulling out all the stops for its 20th anniversary, with massive discounts on cash shop items and its brand-new Masterpiece Edition collection, Steam Deck compatibility, and much more. The anniversary sale lasts until April 29, but fans can also celebrate the big milestone in Guild Wars itself until May 6.
Though it entered maintenance mode when Guild Wars 2 was released in 2012, the original Guild Wars is still alive and well with a small, dedicated player base. Like the sequel, Guild Wars requires no subscription, providing access to everything found within the game and its three expansions once purchased.
Guild Wars 2 Adds Playable Tengu, But There's a Catch
After almost 13 years, Guild Wars 2 adds a way for fans to play the mysterious, avian Tengu, though not in the way they might have expected.
Now, Guild Wars is offering another way for players to dive into the retro MMO. The Guild Wars 20th Anniversary Masterpiece Edition is a new collection that contains everything from the Guild Wars Trilogy, including Prophecies – the base game – as well as both the Factions and Nightfall expansions. It also includes the Eye of the North expansion and the Bonus Mission Pack, which allows one to play through four key stories from Guild Wars history. Were that not enough, ArenaNet is also pushing a compatibility update to let players enjoy Guild Wars on the Steam Deck, featuring two different control mappings: a simple ABXY layout and a trickier "Soulslike" layout.

This new game edition will be included in a massive sale taking place until April 29. The largest discount in Guild Wars history, players can get this special edition (normally $40) and all other original individual expansions and collections for 80% off. Plus, cosmetic items will be up to 60% off in the online store.
Guild Wars is also receiving new content within the game itself. Many pre-order and region-locked weapons, minis, and other rewards from the MMO's early history are being made available in-game for the first time since release. Some of these items will be obtained as rare drops from high-level enemies in new hard mode missions, while others can be obtained from Merrise in Embark Beach as a part of the Guild Wars Anniversary festival in-game until May 6.
There is also a new cycle of weapon upgrade suffixes players can collect called “of the Profession.” Featuring modifiers to each playable profession’s primary attributes, these upgrades not only enable exciting build possibilities but also include new particle effects in the form of glowing streaks matching the primary color of the associated class in Guild Wars. Needless to say, now is a great time for both old and new Guild Wars fans to check out the game.
