In a March 17 forum post, Guild Wars 2 game director Josh "Grouch" Davis confirmed that the game's upcoming sixth expansion has been delayed. Davis said the next Guild Wars 2 expansion will launch in October 2025, two months after its initial August release window, to give it more development time to meet quality standards.

Though Guild Wars 2 is approaching 13 years of active service, ArenaNet's MMORPG shows no signs of slowing down. Following the conclusion of the End of Dragons expansion in 2023, ArenaNet shifted its focus toward yearly expansion releases, starting with Secrets of the Obscure. This pattern continued with the latest expansion, Janthir Wilds, alongside its traditional quarterly updates. Although the latter expansion packs require separate purchases, the base version of Guild Wars 2 quickly became one of the best free-to-play RPGs on Steam following its 2022 launch on Valve's PC storefront.

Following the launch of the Repentance update, Guild Wars 2 confirmed that players now have a little more time to spend on their Janthir Homesteads before jumping into the next expansion. According to a forum post by Davis, the release of Guild Wars 2's sixth expansion was delayed from August to October 2025, a two-month change between release windows. Davis stated that the extra time would allow the development team to ensure the currently-untitled expansion meets ArenaNet's standards without crunching to get it done.
