Guild Wars 2 just gave fans a first look at the Homesteads feature coming in Janthir Wilds, which includes over 300 placeable decorations, daily resource nodes to collect, and even the ability to park alts and mounts in the instance. This robust player housing feature is set to hit Guild Wars 2 alongside the Janthir Wilds expansion on August 20.
Recently, Guild Wars 2 announced Janthir Wilds, its fifth expansion pack. The exciting content update adds two zones located in the mysterious Isles of Janthir, an open-world version of the previously PvP-only Warclaw, and the two-handed spear – Guild Wars 2’s first new weapon since launch. However, of these features, few gathered as much excitement from the community as the Homesteads player housing feature.
Guild Wars 3 Is in Development
Despite Guild Wars 2 still actively producing new expansions, ArenaNet is reportedly in the process of developing a sequel to the 12-year old MMO.
Now, Guild Wars 2 has given fans a first glimpse at this feature. According to PC Gamer, who had the chance to experiment with the system ahead of time, Homesteads will be unlocked for players early on in the Janthir Wilds story. The system is instanced, so fans don’t have to worry about winning, buying, or losing plots. Players can place objects all over the instance, freely allowing them to float in the air, clip into the ground, or combine with other items.
Homesteads Player Housing in Guild Wars 2: Janthir Wilds
- An instanced housing system with no lottery, plots, or eviction system like those found in MMOs like Final Fantasy 14.
- Unlocked early on in the Janthir Wilds story.
- Fully customizable, with X, Y, and Z axis control for placeable decorations.
- Over 300 decorations at launch, with at least 500 more planned before the end of Janthir Wilds.
- Mounts, skiffs, and characters who log out in the Homestead hang out in the instance.
- Armor and weapon stands to display rare equipment and outfits.
- A mine, logging camp, and farm to gather daily resources.
Over 300 decorations are planned at launch, though ArenaNet hopes to have over 800 by the end of the expansion. These items will be obtained via a new crafting mechanic in Janthir Wilds, through Guild Wars 2 holiday events, or at the cash shop.
Were that not exciting enough, players can display their favorite cosmetics at the Homestead. Armor and weapon racks let fans display the best outfits they find in their exploration of Guild Wars 2, and stables can let them show off their rarest mount skins. What’s more, alts who log out in the Homestead can be seen hanging out around the instance on other characters – all while gaining a buff while resting there. Guild Wars 2 claimed Homesteads were “the most player-friendly housing system in an MMORPG,” and now that fans have gotten a first look at it, they have good reason to believe it.
